Dozy fecker.....stick the link in your sig like everyone else.....i dint say you had to edit your post :D:D:D:D:D

Well I have met Ratty and he is a top chap, Although I have been warned not to follw him too closely his 110 has a ditch fettish.

Now does anyone know exactly what we have to do to recon leaf springs?

If they're not flat as a pancake, take them to bits, rub them down and reassemble well oiled. New replacement ones are **** compared to the originals. I've got original leaf springs and the axles hit the bump stops no problem. As I've found to my cost, buy OEM whenever you can, as pattern parts are rubbish.

My Series is in bits again, did the wheel bearings with Jai a month ago, they've welded themselves onto the shafts. DB is fitting new swivel and all new bits to the front N/S. Rear brakes are completely shot, metal on metal, so all new there too. Starter motor has died too.
It's only money.
May I introduce my brand new 2009 Series III Land Rover.

I don't understand why the bearing had welded itself together. It had plenty of play in it side to side. The seal was new but I guess all the crap we have been through and that wee puddle (river) you sat in when trying to tow out carpy must have got water in it or somthing for it to go that bad. Jai

When I opened the hud a torrent of slimy water poured out mate.
There was a fair bit of sandy type sludge in that formed a kind of grinding paste. the outer bearing was seized solid and just spining on the stub axle. I though he was taking the **** when he said the bearings were 4 weeks old!

Thats mad. Is there any way the swivel could have let water in to the bearings cos the seal rear hub seal was new and the stub axle didn't look too bad when we took it apart. The old bearings were well shot tho the bearing cages were dead must have been getting so hot they were knackared. Jai

As everyone knows I give my Landy some serious stick, I expect to break things, I'm not complaining, but I do think that pattern parts are a total waste of money, a total false economy.
DB, it's a toy, it's done when it's done, no pressure.

The swivel was full of the same really. The whole lot could have passed into the hub i suppose. The free wheeling hubs were full also.
is amazing where the water will get in and how easy it will bypass a seal that is a nice tight fit.

Biggest problem is heat. Yu get ya swivels & hubs nicely warmed up then when they hit cold water everything contracts and opens up gaps for the water to be sucked in via capiliary action. Tis a bastid but nowt yu can do about it really.

I'll be there on the 14th June 2009 for the Comp Safari & JTV Mount Wood - Nr Epping I'll be helping out with the Comp Safari marshalling and my youngest neice might have a go at JTV. I think Ryder is toying with the idea of going also. There is nothing for us to compete in unless you get your mota all ARC legal and rollcaged for comp safari racing.

Mount wood,
Kettering,
and Roundhill woods are fantastic sites for trialling tho.
Jai
