Happy New Year All----

My range rover is stil dead though..discovery still working and did us proud caravanning in the new forest over christmas and new year.

Technical assistance / knowledge please.... Kev :)

Its still not hitting top gear, have changed ATF fluid twice, helped it get 1 2 3 but still not top. Took the chasis support bar off under sump change filter this time too, sheared stud on down pipe from manifold and centre section was so badly corroded i had to source a pair of V8 manifolds with good studs and 2 new down pipes. All before i can actually drive the car with the new Auto box filter and fluid in so i can see if it hits top gear....lots of money spent and still may have to shell out for a recon gearbox....

Happy New year....

when driving off-road for extended periods , say Whaddon, do you leave your low range selected all day? or would you normally keep it running in normal high range and change when you need to?
also what was the name of that spares place you recommended Kev? i ordered from them but have lost their details.(how much for a lucas arm and cap!!!!!!)

hopefully see you out on the lanes soon

Hey disco52, Happy New Year to you too.

Where to start..... gearbox doesn't sound too clever, brace yourself for getting a replacement. Have you thought of getting a transmission specialist to look at it, could be better to get it diagnosed properly at this stage but watch the pennies.

Hi/Lo range off road... easy, leave it in high unless you really need max traction or you want to have more low speed control without dragging your brakes.

Lastly, Dingocroft, out Aylesbury way I think and as for the cost, yeah I know but absolutely worth it. Am I right in thinking you found out what I mean about Rangie not liking pattern rotor arms. Mine positively chews 'em up and spits 'em out. Genuine Lucas arm keeps it running sweet (so far, anyway).

Catch yers later.

Hey Disco01,

Found out that the next trial is in Feb will be attending for sure thats down near north Weald Air field area. In March I'm hoping to get there to help out at a comp safari at the same venue. Jai

R.e Disco 52,

People have their own ways and methods of driving. Me personally I always keep my Landy in Low range difflock at all times when at Whaddon unless I feel I need to go above 25Mph which is almost never at Whaddon or at a trial but always diff lock engaged. As you have a rangie you most likley have viscious coupling in which case you only need to worry about hi and low.

Jai

Morning all.

I’ve only been out to play with you lot once at the back end of October (the Black 90 with the self opening doors), as I’ve hade the dubious pleasure of doing up our new house since then, with the Landy giving sterling service to the tip and back.

The V8 (RRC on Carbs) is playing up a bit though and I thought I’d ask for guidance.

When it went for the MOT it was running too rich so needed ‘de-tuning’. But now although the MPG performance is far better, it hesitates and stalls. So my guess would be it needs turning up to run richer.

Is there any duffers guide on line (I’ve done a search) or do we have any V8 tuning guru’s in our midst, who’d have a go (payment up front)?;)

All the best and glad to see your all getting in the muddy stuff.

Not really played with a V8 on Carbs, but I would check ignition system (all of it, plugs, leads, dizzy, advance/retard, coil and ballast resistor if fitted) and timing, then check carbs are balanced and working properly. If that don't sort it you'll be in for a test of patience.

See ya later.

Can somebody PM me deatails about pub meet as I am off and would love to come???

Me and my big mouth:mad:

Thought i would makwe a start on replacing my wheel bearings today. Started at 9.30 this morning and only just finished the first one:eek:
Had to call on Dan to come up and give me a lift to Rogers to get a seal for the stub axle. Ive left them far too long and that old half shaft made a mess of the seal so bad that I had EP90 in the bearings:eek:
Thought I could smell cat****:p
While I was waiting for Dan I decided to have a go at the UJ's on my double carden front prop. That has turned into a disaster aswell. The ball in the middle is spring loaded and I aint got enuf hands to hold it all together while pushing the cups in:mad:
Why they dont put greasable uj's in the fookin things in the first place I will never know.
Thats my night down the pub shot.

I will get to one of these meets on day.............................................

Just admit it, you just don't want to talk to us do you:hurt:, BTW, know what you mean about thinking you'd just "quickly" do a little job. i had the same thing the other week when I though I would just change the brake pads and found shot bearings on the front right.

Chin up mate, we'll see you soon no doubt.

By the time I have finished all the running gear will be new:(
Still its about right. Just over the 100,000 mile barrier and it all goes tits up!
