OK... a day's running around. Got the circlip pliers... snapped them went and bought some bigger ones! Got down to the rear bearing but am having trouble actually getting the damn thing out. I can see its fubarred but can't pursuade it to come out. Is there a tool I can use for removing bearings like these or do I rely on brute force and ignorance?

Ryder sorry can't help, never done it.

Had a good afternoon with Kev & Viper did the lanes at Puckeridge, Lilley, Offley, Whitwell, Kings Walden and finished with the Fords at Batford & Redbourn. Followed by a swift one in Whipsnade.

Took it steady and now Viper's laning cherry is popped, forrays further afield are in order.

It's very wet out there and by the look of the weather forecast, it's going to get a lot wetter.

Jai, Glenn Ashwell is calling. You know you want too.:D

Ryder,

This isn't a job I have done either but I would suggest you get yourself a bearing and gear puller or similar. It might be worth your while getting in touch with Ashcroft Transmissions in Luton, they may well be able to tell you what you need or indeed give you an indication of cost if you take the box to them.

Had an unexpected afternoon out and about with Spyderman and Viper. Like Spyderman said it was a bit wet in places but nonetheless it was a fair afternoon out laning, cheers guys.

Yes Yes Ashwell Is indeed calling!

I am knackared until next month me thinks as next weekend its final trial training at Whaddon then the weekend after that its the real deal for my neices at roundhill woods tyro trial.

Ryder I have a puller although I would not know how to get behind the bearing unless it has a groove on the outer part of the bearing. Although you are most welcome to borrow it and try.

I would think that the noise it was making it would most definatly be fubared is it not possible to get the bits out with plyers long nose mole grips and mabe take the centre out and then use the puller to get behind the outter ring? Mabe we could knock up a tool can you take pics and post them. Can you see any damage to the shaft?? If so look for a used tranny box but give us a shout before your purchase as there are a few diff ratios and you wouldn't believe what some people are trying to asking for used ones. I got mine for £40 I wouldn't go much above £50/60 for a known box Jai.

Thanks Jai... to my untrained eye the shaft looks fine. The bearing is knackered of course but I want to avoid further damage to the shaft when extracting the bearing. Dont mind bashing the bearing about if necessary, but making the job harder than it is already seems counter productive.

AND... by 2.30-3 pm its too dark under the motor to get anything productive done... jesus that's when I am getting out of bed!

If " A rose by any other name smells as sweet..." why does my wife now think I am using an after shanve known as eau de swarfega"?

thanks glenn and kev for the lanes yesturday enjoyed it we need to get out and do some bigger and harder 1s next time will have to sort it out thanks again

Ryder,

I'm about today, give me a shout later and we'll see if we can do something with that bearing. Like Jai said, maybe we can fabricate something to get the blighter out - a couple of bits of threaded rod, some bolts and washers and who knows!
