How do I lower emissions on a 3.9 disco? Will a good service do the trick?

Hi Stu, I assume it is running hotwire injection on a 14CUX ECU.

What is the problem with the emissions? I assume they are high which could be a variety of things. I would be inclined to firstly give it a good service, renew oil, oil filter, air filter and plugs. Next clean the engine breathers and then check/set the ignition timing.

Once you've done that I would get busy with a multi meter and check out the air flow meter, especially CO Trim and air flow signal. If the air flow meter is shot it will run (sort of) but will be really really rich.

If all this seems to be O.K. you would be wise to check the O2 sensors are working and switching correctly (once the engine is warm). If it is switching it may be the O2 sensors are shot. If it isn't switching to lambda control once warm check the temperature thermistor, if it is duff it may run rich because the ECU thinks the engine is cold so adds mixture enrichment.

Hope that helps.

Cheers Kev. I plan on a full service and then see how it goes. What you are saying makes sense. Dam thing failed on that and a few minor bits so hopefully I will get it through the mot next week.

Anybody else going to "Whaddon" this week end ?

should be able to catch up with Jai for my track rod thingy, poke about with my breaks on saturday. so should make it there,

its good old proper mud at whaddon not been for over a yr so should be fun

Just had a look ,

too far foe me to go with my truck !
last trip was about my limits ,
it may swim well and be good in the mud,

but she has lost some of her road etiquet lol !!
and thats a 100mile trip just to get there let alone do the lanes and get home.

Last time i went to essex it was further. mine isnt the best on the roads but if you dont travel you dont see anything different.

Might not have it ready for Weston on Sunday- I haven't got to much to do, but every night I get home it has been to cold (for my liking!!) to work on it.

Guess you guys don't speak Jai!

He said "Stu, did you just get a low loader with an excavator? Driver has some patience, the other cars blocking him were a bit clueless" or something like that.

Ah well, I shall head off to the farm to give Stutab some assistance welding the Disco now.

Might even get round to sorting out my 110 handbrake.

Hi All

is it worth using a return to centre steering damper ?
or just a heavy duty standard one...

thanks to JAI i now have a track rod bar back and fitted,,
and hope to rob his front hd bar of his defender also lol !
