Don't go gasless they are ****. It depends on what you are thinking of welding. Anything thinner than about 3-4mm then mig.Alright fellas, so im after some opinions, I want to teach myself to weld, what do you think? should i buy a gasless mig and have at it in the garage with some offcuts ive got or should i try arc or should i go and do a course? i've read that Mig is easier, but Arc is more useful for larger things? what do you reckon?
Lee I've got a little mig here if you wanna have a play
If you do go Mig forget anything less than 140a and get gas that way you can run both gas and gassless wire. Co2 is cheap enough around here getting argoshield is more expensive but the difference is a much nicer weld and the argoshield doesnt cool the weld pool down so you can use a lower Amp mig machine to weld the same thickness steel or if you get a more powerful welder turn it up run co2 and it not be quite as tidy. It teally is an art and sad to say I can weld ish stick buts I need to stick together but Andy puts me to shame same machine every time. Nothing like experience in this case.
Look forward to seeing you on Wednesday Lee. Def go Mig over arc
Hi all,
Just introduced myself to the forum, St Albans based and looking to play with my recently acquired Discovery 2 on some mild/moderate lanes.
Is the pub meet open to all?
Has anybody been into the little area on Lye Lane in St Albans?
