Land rovers are better in natural, dark colours when used out in the country etc.

And that's what they're for!

Noiseman

the grey beast is very near you - Bollington - main duties include growling around the lanes of poshest cheshire - occasionally straying into Wilmslow high street to pick up a Rolex or a garlic ciabatta - and of course the twice-daily school run to MGS

keep an eye out for it - has a Mantec rear carrier now and we had to quieten the exhausts a bit - but still sounds great.

Haha that's funny :p

As an mgs boy myself I know how harrowing the daily commute into Fallowfield can be!

I like your garlic ciabatta reference, how did you know that is the staple diet of a Cheshire resident?! :p

Anyway, I WILL keep eyes peeled!

There are a number of very tidy 90s around here in similar colour, but the ones I have seen mostly appear to be brand new tdci!

Just checked the reg and it is still current, I will look out for SYB!

Nice one :D

Hi Shane

looking for ward to some pics when the beast is done.

Either of those greys will look grand I am sure.

Although my favourite is westminster grey - from the P38 westminster edition - you don't see it very often.

Did you ever buy the 4.6 top-hat engine from Turners?

I pushed freida hard to give you a trade discount - she only does one level - 10%

We buy loads of stuff from them - thay are very nice people though and top notch service and advice.

Good luck with the rest of the build

Hopefully it's not too far away from finish. Back at college at night time and taken it's toll. I had the block all lined up to go to freida and I decided to get some work done in Ireland first to save on money I.e exchange rate like pressure test and camshaft bearings etc. Ends up the block is scrap. It had oversized liners fitted at some stage and a lot of meat skimmed off the decks so it can't be top hatted. This all happened only last week. Good news is I managed to get my hands on a brand new 4.2 v8 short block. I have a 3.9 interim so I will swap all the bits over and make it a serp. When arranging to send to freida she mentioned that was the price. Thanks for mentioning it to here. Appreciate the help. :D

Hey Vic one thing I meant to ask, what adaptors are you using for these conversions?

Is r380 adaptable or will it simply not handle the torque?

Reason I ask is regards a long term engine upgrade itch that I need to scratch even though I tell myself I must not!

Cannot decide between rover or Chevrolet, weighing up all considerations.

Changing up Chevrolet involves a LOT if change regards ancillaries aswell as the obvious plumbing, exhaust and management.

i used to run an lt77 with 6 pot tdi running 2bar and lpg..it was fine...i am running 400hp though a lt85..it is fine...

all the books will tell you r380 wont cope...but its the clutch that will die first..

as long as you dont drop the clutch too often trying to spin the wheels it is quite amazing how much power the lr boxes will take..

plus.....if you kill an r380 they are pennies to replace..

^^^ yeah I was thinking that there is a difference between accelerating and dump in the clutch...

I would defo be looking at keeping it simple, if the job looks out of hand I won't bother with the idea

One thing I cannot work out is what one does with the input shaft if one has to use an adaptor plate, does it not become too short?

As long as the input shaft can fully engage the clutch splines its fine ;)

Series V8 conversion is a 35mm adaptor plate I think, now I assume the V8 block has less shrouding on the flywheel which takes care of part of the problem but it still engages alright

So the same would apply here I reckon

Not really true if you use the correct clutch for the engine though ?

I could get a chevy clutch under a RV8 bellhousing but the clutch would take far more power than the box could even though it would fit both box and engine

I guess the simple answer is it'll be ok unless you drive angry

But then again you could break anything driving angry enough

If 4.6 weren't so ****/expensive id be happy enough with that

After all I'm at stock 3.5, id be happy with you know the sort of 250bhp area from a breathed on 4.6 but I don't know if I can trust the buggers...

Another great build griffman, I'm in sutton currently and keep my ears peeled for the sound of your 90! Looking forward to more updates

Get a 350 1x1 engine, they used to do one that was 350hp and 350ft/lbs in some corvettes from what I've read and seen (Whitams was selling one last month, limited edition of 350 vehicles)

Do any of you guys consider the jaguar v8 for conversions
The 3.2 lists at 240 bhp and there is obviously bigger vertions available
Looking on ebay you can buy the hole car for not a lot

Just a question :)

Considered a 4.2 supercharged but decided it had too much electrics.......could have had one with everything including gearbox for £250 but not worth the effort hooking up the electrics

I have MS already which in some senses saves me a job as I've already got my head round it, and with that you can make almost any engine run, just not one with variable timing etc

Another I looked at is the BMW m62, but a pre 98 one without vanos

Was thinking if I could use L322 bell housing (m62-5hp24) but somehow get it to fit a ZF box with a rear casing that would mount to an lt230

However I don't know if anything modern would do it for me

Great on paper but not got the music

A pal has a 4.4 L322 with fairly open exhausts and it sounds great, but it's not "muscle"

Of course jag used ZF boxes so there is potential there and they are good sounding motors

Got to be careful of early motors with nikasil liners, although most lost compression and got swapped out many moons ago
