hi everyone, my name is alessandro and i'm writing from italy. i'm in trouble with my defendef td5 because i still don't know which should be the best solution regarding the new kit i would like to mount on my car. i use it 99% for offroad and i would like to not recreate the car but only improving the already good original standards. could you give me an help?
 
dear slob, this is the problem. which is the best chioce to lift +2'' my def. i would like to know also if the front radius arm and the rear cranked arms are something that i must have in my kit or not. honestly speaking i'm in big trouble... i saw many kits on internet, but i don't know what to do. for exmple 4x4 mail order +2'' kit is something i like, and also the mm-4x4 is showing an interesting kit, boh. please give me an advice.
 
2" lift should be OK with standard radius arms/lower trailing arms. Be sure to uprate your bushes at the same time to improve things. You can put castor corrected radius arms on, but they are only required for 2.5" of lift and more, but at this lift, you will be needing modified prop shafts as well as the bearings in the Universal Joints will go very quickly. I have a mate with 4" lift and he has been using it to tow a 3t JCB nearly every day, two sets of prop shaft UJ's in 12 weeks :eek:

aye a 2 inch max, lift is ok and not too expensive.
after that it gets complicated and very expensive. and expensive to operate!
 
I don't realy see the point in lift kits unless your doing extreme offroading, apart from a more aggresive look. I'd start by putting on sill protectors and, if you think them necessary steering and sump protectors. Then I'd be thinking of difflockers. Other than that I'd save my money for when it breaks down!
 
A 2" lift does make a lot of difference off-roading. Playdays at Tong would leave a lot of routes unaccesible unless you have lifted suspension, and is a must when out trialling.

Of the people I go laning and offroading with, mainly Langdale and Kirton, I'm the only one with standard suspension. They don't do anything I can't, the only thing is I've knackered my cills, 'cos I've still not got round to making some rocksliders that you sent me the plans for, ooops.

I'll be replacing the suspension sometime this summer and might knock myself some spacers up to raise the springs by an inch or so. I don't suppose you know the dimensions of the spacers do you.

There is also a trick of lopping a bit off the dislocation cones to increase suspension travel any idea what it is exactly.
 
Couldn't tell you the dimensions off the top of my head - mine came already lifted with uprated springs/dampers/polybushes etc.

Better off speaking to a suspension expert, I'm just a novice when it comes to this. Engines, welding, big hammers - no probs! BTW I was over your way on Monday - holiday home place on Queensferry Road. Next time I'm over there I'll let you know ;)
