In my experience they don't just keep it for females. They work on the basis that you don't have to know much more than the customer to be an expert!! In their defence they are mostly trained to replace 'modules' and not to understand the basic principles of how things work. Depends how involved you want to get but it is entirely reasonable to ask for the old damaged pieces to be kept. They are yours after all. Then photos please!! Hope it all works out despite the cost and inconvenience. And get reading t'manual!!!! :)
Thanks, will do and thanks for birthday wishes

Happy Birthday BTW!!! :D
Thanks Andy.
Just picked my car up, all good so far. Invoice interesting.
"Find slave cylinder overextended due to worn / incompatible clutch"
Transfer box oil filler threads poor - sealer used to retain plug"
Found the mystery part lol.
If clutch was" incompatible", shouldn't he have noticed that when he did the slave last October? Can understand wear, the car does about a hundred miles a day.

Glad you are back on wheels again!! Yes he should have spotted the problem, but tbh I can't see how the clutch could be incompatible and work.. Did you get the old slave cyl? My guess is that it was a naff slave cyl. What do others think?? Guess you have a whole new 'compatible' clutch now and 12 months warrantee?? Hold on to it!!!

I don't believe it!!!
Idiiot at garage disturbed some of cooling system when taking gearbox out, nett result: no coolant. Driven about 10 miles, then warning lights a Gogo.
Turned heater on to full blast and pulled over to check.
No wonder it was over heating, reservoir tank drier than a nun's wimple!
Idiiot is on his way with coolant.
Do you think that the universe is try to tell me something??!

Wow, school boy error! Now I am a bit of a rotweiller when it comes to poor performing garages. If it were my car I'd get the garage to confirm in writing that they will cover the cost of a head gasket replacement should it now be required in the next 12 months. Probs unlikely as you stopped straight away, but worth a punt.

Why would a nun's wimple be wet? Just asking!!! Google says......
What is a nun's wimple?
A wimple is an ancient form of female headdress, formed of a large piece of cloth worn around the neck and chin, and covering the top of the head. ..

A worn clutch plate wouldn’t overextend the slave - the opposite, in fact. Worn clutch fingers possibly, but unlikely unless VERY heavily used. Incompatible clutch unlikely (cheap, crap one possible) because when you buy a Td4 clutch, you buy a Td4 clutch. There aren’t variants.

I bet they forgot to reattach the IRD cooler lines, or top up the coolant, or both.

@andyfreelandy I think ‘wimple’ is a euphemism! C*nt is the more usual version, and I’ve heard that phrase from Cornwall to Inverness.

Hi Guys, the phrase around here is nun's t**t, don't like c u next Tuesday, but didn't want to swear lol.
If slave was incompatible, he's shot himself in the foot, cos he bluddy well supplied and fitted it!
Coolant was just a mucky mark on the reservoir. Did get filled on the side of the road and the idiot was very apologetic. Must be some kind of record to break down an hour after I got it back !
