thanks mate ,yeah the guv'nor has a soft spot for landies they do call outs which i think is charged by the hourly rate then what ever the job takes.

you can also give them a bell an he'll give you some advice hes a top bloke really is,is there no way of getting yours over to him?
 
not really unless I get it taken on a truck which would be unnecessarily expensive, mot has expired and I can't take it for one till I finish off the electrics, maybe if I haven't got on top of it by the other side of Christmas I might be in a position to stump up for a tow.

mind you I could book it in for an mot put it back together and shove it down the hill then tell the AA it broke down on the way to the mot place :D

get a free tow that way
 
Joe how much needs doing to your electrics?
Could possibly pop down and assist you to sort it out.
I am about 45 miles from Richmond was a pit electrician so have the ability.

no idea how much work is needed, essentially after I swapped out the bulkhead last year none of the lights including brake and indicators work, the wiper motor or washers or the heater - although the heater motor itself works when connected to the battery, having said that the heater fan didn't work when I got the car. I broke a couple of the dash bulbs too.

I am sure its probably a bad/none existent earth or I have put some connections on the wrong place.

I have been toying with the idea of sodding it and getting a new loom from autosparks, the main loom is about £200 for an s3

Aye your right thats a bit far to travel.
Is it an original harness or masses of added wrong coloured wires .
If original wires should be easy to trace and a 12V test tool is your friend.
Run a large [about 2.5mm] black wire from radiator slam panel to battery earth point and another to the rear of the dash will help to eliminate bad earths.

Tried to fit LED side light bulbs a couple of winters ago , original bilbs worked fitted the LED ones and one would not work , when I eventually found fault earth was connected to centre of bulb and live to earth , so basically that wing was not conducting current or it would have burnt out my wiring.
 
thanks for the tip I will try to run those wires.

most of the loom is original but it has been buggered about with e.g. non standard ignition switch fitted using none standard colours. the guy who fitted it obviously knew what he was doing just didn't stick to the original colours, I cut the tape off the loom and found out where the colours changed and have fitted a proper switch back on the column

fuel gauge still works :D

Lol good idea joe thats if the aa turn up ! i waited 2 hours for some joker from cedars ??? hope you get sorted if not i'll tow it over if you can borrow a trailer from someone ;)
 
thanks for the offer, actually I have been thinking about getting a used trailer for some time, i have a v8 chevy as my main ride which would pull it easily, only thing stopping me is that i doubt i would use it that much and wouldn't have anywhere to store it easily
 
that's a possibility, hadn't thought of that, if I haven't got any further after xmas - which is highly likely :D - i'll give that a go. must be somewhere round here does em. I know i can rent a transporter from a place in north London but its more than £40 a day plus you have to get over there pick the thing up etc
