a worn alternator can mess with electric's some thing wicked, there are tests you can do on the alternator with a test meter without the car running. YouTube? Hope you find the bug! Good luck.
Thanks - I think they have tested this, but I will double check with them

Get yourself to a landrover garage maybe not a main dealer but a specialist
There will be something to see on an auto logic if you know what to look for surely

do you have fuses on the side of the battery life connector? Cracked solder joints? Corroded earth points?

Sounds very much like a bad earth to me.
I'd check all earth straps to engine and bodywork.
Get a set of jump leads, connect battery negative to the engine and then one from the engine to the body and I'll bet it works.
To be honest, I'd have no faith in the garage you're using if they're discounting electrical fault with the symptoms you've posted.

Help

I'm really struggling with my 2010 3.0 Range Rover HSE.

I have had the car for three years. It's only done 51,000 miles. It's got a full service history and I have never abused it!

Before Christmas the car very occasionally started to go into restricted performance mode. When restarted the fault seemed to go away. I took it to my local Landrover independent who have a good reputation. They said it was an air-flow meter issue and changed the part.

Two days later the battery went on the car, I put this down to coincidence and changed the battery. Next day the restricted performance light came back, plus a vehicle stability type warning. The fuel indicator also constantly showed empty.

I had the car recovered to the same independent. They changed the fuel sensors in the tank. They also changed the active roll bar. This cost about £1500.

The next day I drove the car to work. In the outside lane of the motorway the car lost all power and gave a Engine Systems Fault. It went into limp mode and would not do over 1000 rmp. Luckily I was near the slip road and limped off the motorway. I stopped the car and after 5 mins re-started. No warning lights and the engine was fine. I drove the remaining mile to the office and had the car recovered (again) to the independent. I tried to drive it onto the transporter, but after standing for a few hours it would not start. The starter motor just runs to no effect.

The Landrover independent have had the car for 3 weeks. They can't get it to run, claim it's getting no error messages, they have never seen anything like it.

They initially said it was electrical, they seem to have discounted that after calling in an electrical engineer. They then blamed the exhaust, then the turbo. They have now discounted all of these! They are beginging to talk about it now being mechanical.

I'm beginning to lose faith in the garage. I know it's a long shot, but has anyone ever seen anything similar?

Im really struggling as it's the families main car.
Hi all

Thanks to those that have commented.

The plot thickens. It now looks like an injector issue. Despite not giving any errors. The first injector has been tested and failed, they are testing the others as they think all six have gone.

The mode the car went into before the original fuel censor fix, is designed to protect the injectors and cat.

The fuel tank was removed and drained to fix the censor. I'm worried that when it was refilled it's got contaminated with something that's caused the damage. Alternatively they have just suppressed the error and that's masked an underlying issue that has damaged the injectors.

The garage are being helpful. But the car has been off the road since December!

did they not do a leak off test on the injectors? Even loosening just a touch each injector nut just to see if fuel arrives at the injectors also a resistance test. Then after no real result the injectors are tested using a specialist machine.. As you now know.. Unfortunately, a lot of todays injectors being as sensitive as they are. They are not as robust as the older generation... Ive had two cars with failed injectors at 60,000mls.. A dear do modern cars..I hope at least you are now on the home run with this thing!

Thanks Mark. They have sent them to an injector specialist, they work electronically but will not pass fuel.

mechanically jammed, sounds like the little top hat inside that allows the lower pin to jump up letting diesel out!!! if they are of that type.. usually contamination.
your welcome ;-)

Crikey.
Be careful what you spend here. I found a lot of the 2010 plus models suffer from fuel filter sensor/ holder. This fault brings up the restricted performance & limp mode.
It's fitted under the bonnet on the left side above wheel arch.

Finally got to the bottom of this. The high pressure fuel pump has failed and damaged all the injectors.

modern injection systems are made of shïte..said it! Low mileage failures...unbelievable, how is more economical to run if it breaks down sooner? More economical for bloody who?

Rant over walking away... Sorry dude.:(
