Hi all.
I noticed that my air con isn't blowing cold air (not air con temperature cold air, just cool air from what appears to normal cool air from outside). I searched the forum and checked the obvious, the compressor clutch appears to kick in when the air is switched on ( I hear a click and revs change). Does that mean that the clutch is working?
I have read that it is possible that the refridgerant may be low and in need of recharging. Does this sound like what it may be?
I was going to try one of the top up cans from Halfords. Can anyone tell me how I use it?
Everything else works, ie: it blows hot air when a hot temp. is selected and cool air when temp. lowered.
Thanks.

Normally theres a presure switch in the aircon system that stops the compressor cuting in when the gas is low,Are you sure yours is deffinatly cutting in?

Make sure the turny thingy is spinning when you have the air con on cold.
Get some one to turn the aircon on while you have the bonnet open and you should see the pump kick in (start turning) If this doesn't then check the connector that sits next to the turny thing to make sure that it is not loose. If it is spinning then I suggest it need regassing.

Get them to dye test for leaks when they pressure check it. Might have a holey condensor or somthin.

Thanks Sirius. I'll check. Seems logical enough. As I said i think the compressor cuts in when switched on as I hear the revs drop and some kind of slipping clutch sound? Not a definate CLICK, you can hear a dragging click noise. I know it sounds like what the hell are you talking about but it is the best I can describe it.
Hi Slob. I don't have a hissing noise from behind the dash but when I run the RR with the air on and shut the engine off you can hear some kind of noise from under the dash g/box area. It stops when you turn the ignition of fully or the air con switch off. I would associate it with the air con as my Disco made the same noise but its air con worked. Maybe this is what you describe as hissing, its certainly an air sound but it aint hissing like a puncture if that's what you mean.
Thanks for the help so far.

if you have a hissing sound yer low on gas which also happens to be the main cause of A/C problems. get a tin of gas from ebay, make sure it has a gauge with it. and bung it it. you can also add oil, leak detector and sealant at the same time. but DO get one with a gauge.
