hi all,

hopefully someone can help,
200tdi 110, when i turn full lock then pull away and drive off there are 3-5 big bangs from the front wheels and the whole thing jolts, feels like the front end is going to collapse.
i jacked up the front and after turning full lock the wheels seize up, after a bit of rocking they rotate again (same both sides).
Can only assume CV joints, diff or half shaft problem. Can anyone narrow down the most likely candidate, im hoping for CVs as they are the cheapest replacement by far...
thanks in advance

Yes, CV is most likely, but bearings are easier and cheaper - I'd replace them while stripping the hub anyway.
Whereabouts in Kernow are ya? I'm in the Liskeard / Looe area.

not too far from you im near Bude, you might get a little snow next couple days if your close to the moor. Yep bearings will get replaced while its stripped down.
If it is something more sinister, anyone know any good used diffs or half shafts, to get on short notice?
and forgot to add, whines like a loose fan belt for a short time after the locking

Sounds just like CV's, my 90 did the same when on full lock, I replaced the CV joints and all sorted, I had a friend who ignored it and landed up with a swivel housing full of shrapnel to contend with! The joints are not too expensive and not too tricky a job, a new driving member gasket and a tube of swivel grease for each side and you are ready to go!

Stripped down and cvs are fine...its the bloody transfer box!
dropped the props off diffs and both front and back rotate happily, transfer box locks up solid after a couple rotations. Wasnt expecting that, although been whining a tad of late, and oil was milky when i changed it the other day, shouldnt have ignored it.
managed to source a replacement for £150 delivered, so the family still gets a turkey for christmas.
