It's very unusual for the HG to fail on a TD4.
Even more unusual to loose coolant without the coolant coming out the pressure cap, or the coolant reservoir exploding. The compression pressure on these is almost 400 PSI, so if it's not blowing coolant out the reservoir, you might need to investigate the coolant loss again.
The EGR cooler is a common place for coolant to enter the combustion chamber. ;)
Late reply because life (fixing 3 other cars put the FL on the back burner )
So the coolant leak was in fact the pipe to the ird cooler, swapped and that’s now operational and holding so definitely not the head. However the white burnt smelling smoke remains around 1750k revs. So far I’ve done a full service,
ran it through with injector cleaner,
stripped/cleaned injectors and fit new seals,
leak off was fine once one injector was replaced,
compression was fine with all cylinders <10% different.
HP seals replaced (though they were fine)
All air sensors swapped out with tested ones
All hoses swapped for silicon
Vacuum pipes checked fine

I’m at a loss here, LP pump is quiet, it has the loom replacement for injectors already, cyclone breather in. My next guess would be the turbo solenoid but I’m shooting in the dark at this point ‍♂️

Does it splutter too? If so it's commonly known as the 2 k misfire, which can happen under light throttle on some TD4 engines between 1700 and 2200 RPM. It's often accompanied by white to blue-ish smoke, and has no definitive cure.

Yeah feels like a missfire, just between the 1750-2000 rev mark. Car needs putting through it mot but the smoke has me concerned  it has been parked up for a fair while now too so could just need a good run/blow through but I’m trying to not smoke out the neighbourhood :D

That's the 2k misfire that this engine can suffer, some not all. There's no definitive cure, but I've a suspicion it's to do with oil contamination from the breather circuit. I never got round to testing it on mine though, as the gearbox failed before I had a chance, then I got the FL2, so the FL1 was sold with a broken gearbox.

Mine never failed the MOT on emissions, actually it was pretty clean on the MOT smoke test. ;)

last mot, i watched the tester check the emissions.
he gunned the engine a couple of times, to blow out soot [ i'd guess ]
then he did the e.test .. on idle revs ..
