Hi all,

Anyway, purchased a 2001 defender the other day, td5, anyway, enjoying myself driving it about, anyway, yesterday I pull up at a junction, then I start to drive, get into 4th then it just starts dying. Anyway, I pull over, turn off the engine, try to start her, nothing, ticking over but just doesn't fire up.

Anyway, so I try this key into second position and pump the accelarator 5 times, then try start her, tried this many times to no success, so that's when the recovery truck has to be called. He has a noisy and tells me that the fuel is just drippling to the engine, no pressure. So I get it home, take out the fuel pump, have a noisy, can't find any blocks. So what do you guys reckon, new fuel pump is it? I'm quite a novice with a lot of mechanics so any advice is brilliant, even if you live nearby and can help me out ill sort you out a few bob. Cheers

Chris

When you turn on the ignition can you here the in tank pump running,if not then either the pump itself or relays/fuses

Don't know much about td5's, but im in Blackpool I will phone johnlad he has td5's and is good with them

Will pm you johnlads number. He at work right now but has fault code readers and td5 knowledge.

maybe wrong but don't they have two pumps. One is a lift pump from the tank, the second is a high pressure pump driven off the timing chain that supplys fuel to the fuel rail, which then supplies fuel to each injector. Also I know disco td5's have it but not sure on the fenders but the fuel pressurfe regulator can give problems or leak

Did you get sorted Chris?

Not that I'd be much help, only got a D2 TD5 - no test or recovery equipment sorry.

Diff.
