Really need help with this I'll start with the easy probs.
Black oil looks to be leaking from the rear right of the car, looks like its dripping from what I think is the fuel tank brace, any ideas what this could be? Seems too dark to be diesel.

Lot of smoke from exhaust when I start the engine from cold, but it disappears after a short while.

Reversing sensors don't work, the sensors themselves are fine can only assume its the control unit?

Intermittent electrical problem - sometimes when I turn on the ignition none of the instruments work for a few seconds and when they do come on and I start the engine, the hill descent, traction control and the engine management lights stay on. More frequently the engine management light will stay on for no apparent reason for a few days and then disappear for a week. I'm guessing this is some kind of weird electrical fault however on one occasion the car would not start either.

This is my first land rover and would really appreciate any help you guys can give

Or go the the intro section, introduce yourself, where you're from, what Hippo do you have, engine, year etc and then maybe you'll get some advice.

Courtesy costs nothing. AND also try the :search: box. There are probably no new faults on hippos, and they're all listed here.

Your right courtesy costs nothing but all I seem to be getting on here is rudeness. I was asking for some advice and as I'm clearly a new member on here did not realise that there was a strict protocol to follow before people will be nice.
Thanks guys there really was no need for you to be rude

No you didn't say go away, but nor did any of you give advice, guess you just don't have a clue what's wrong either just don't want 2 admit it.

DONT try to mix it these people will eat you alive, Try a bit of humility you would be surprised just how far people will go to help you out.
There are plenty of answers to some of your problems if you use the search option while you repair your bridges

Yeah it could go like this in the intro section.

"I came here for some advice on the sh*t sandwich of a car I bought. All I got was a bunch of grief from a bunch of cave people. Since the rest of you must be troglodytes as well since you frequent this pile of offal, allow me to lower myself to your level and introduce myself. My name is Og and I own a Gaylander."

I started with humility and I really would appreciate some constructive advice. People just taking the **** is not helpful however.nor is it warranted. I know there are lots of decent people on here, I seem to have been unfortunate in getting replies from just the childish ones who think they're funny.
If any one has any actual constructive advice about what may be causing some of my cars problems I honestly would appreciate it very much.

Whoa back up a little take a deep breath and look at what you want. You want FREE advice as to a problem you have with Your freelander, now i would think that taking the stance you are taking the chances of you getting that Free Advice is diminishing rapidly. Just do as has been pointed out ie. Go to the introduction section and introduce yourself have a little bit of humility and ask again(We've all been where you are now) you will be amazed at the help you get by following the rules of the board, OR on the other hand you could throw your toys out the cot and go away Your choice:your_wrong:

Maybe it's just me but I was always told it was polite to introduce yourself, whenever you entered a new place of work, business etc or when meeting new people.

Something simple like "Hi my name is ------ and I have/am/need/would like. Funnily enuff it's always worked quite well for me.

Whereas someone turning up unannounced and demanding answers/service/etc. really boils my **** & they usually get told to Fook orf..
