300tdi manual running fine until yesterday died on me at a roundabout, wouldn't restart. Vehicle recovered by RAC, found no fuel from lift pump, cleared lines got fuel bled through to filter and pumps through to injection pump return line but engine wont start. No fuel from injector pipes so suspect injector pump, I can hear click from 3 wire stop solenoid but if fuel starvation was cause of stopping is it the injector pump or am I missing something? Could starving it of fuel have caused the injector pump to fail? I have a Webasto heater so have been able to heat engine and turn it over quickly for several long bursts but nothing.
Any ideas / help welcome.

If you have fuel to the lift pump and none coming from lift pump pump would be obvious place to look, but you may have had an airlock and the system needs bleeding.

Thanks - can I pull fuel through the injector pump to bleed it, thought it had to self-bleed. Just to be clear there was no fuel at lift pump - I blew the lines back to the tank and there is fuel there now and at the filter bleed screw and at the injector pump return union but nothing at the injectors.

you dont bleed the pump just get fuel with no air to front banjo bolt ,you could undo solenoid remove plunger and refit to rule it out ,does pump actually turn

It can self bleed but it's not good for it ...

Wires are attached (it has the 3 wire anti-tamper) and I can hear the solenoid clicking, fuel at pump feed and return but not at injectors, think it has to be a failed pump :(

clicking just once when ignition is turned on or repeatedly, you can remove solenoid but it means smashing cove off and rewiring with a single ignition live after

I would stake my life on it being air in the system. Crack off the feeds to the injectors and spin it over until you get diesel coming out of the unions.
