Hi I have not had my l322 for long and have got a new problem I have had a bit of a juder for 2 weeks coming and going but done a long run this weekend and now it is judering non stop it was just on braking and pulling of now it non stop and now the steering is heavy need to get it sorted asap as had a babby coming in the next week or 2 I have had it put and a snap on scanner and its coming up with p1613 engine stability controller and its drinking diesel please help me out so sorry for the spelling

Sticky brake calipers can cause this. Check how hot your discs are after driving a while. Rears are especially prone to sticking.
 
Hi thanks for that but it not that as it's at Idol 2 and gos wean you put you foot down for a second or 2 then comes back
 
I fear it is the Torque Convertor Lock Up CLutch failing....a search will show this is a common issue with the GM5 box on the Td6.....
 
Thanks will do a friend has told me to have a look at the injections to would this happen if one is bad and it is lumpy and as it still juders wean in neutral
 
hey Justin, I would take @Saint.V8 's word, he knows these very well and has taken his own one apart with photo walkthroughs done as well.

when is the little one due ? it may be worthwhile biting the bullet and getting it seen to quick for three reasons..

1. when the date is due, you'll be needing to get to hospital at short notice and will probably spend a couple of days going back and forth
2. if the car is not reliable, you'll never hear the end of it and it will put your other half in a lot of stress at a stressful time
3. when you get the little one here, you will have chuff all time


where in SW London are you ? saint and myself are just off the M3, @biketeacherdave is in Bromley and knows the L322 engine intimately
 
It's the oil burner adam not the 4.4 m62 iv got use to BUT I'm pretty handy on these ones as well now.
The clue about the fault I think is the fact its drinking fuel with any luck it's not a gearbox fault but as saint says mite be the tc clutch.

I would be tempted to run a leak off test on the injectors, check the engine oil level to make sure no diesel is getting in there. The wiring harness has been know to fail to the injectors on these as well

Ok so done 120 miles had 438 miles of diesel and got left with 130 miles and I have never had this be for she is very good on fuel consumption usually have had a look at the injectors and the 1 at the front of the engine may need looking at as I just done a quick check buy unplug them one at a time but with the 1st one ther was no chang in the running so what do you think and thanks for helping me

No change means either the injector is faulty or the wiring, it would certainly account for the rough running.
 
Why is it that once again the gearbox has been brought up. Listen to what the guy said it’s drinking fuel so why would a gearbox cause this unless it wasn’t going through all the gears? There are more things to go wrong on these than gearbox issues surely. Diagnostics over the internet is a dangerous game
 
Is it possible two ptoblems are presenting together. I had an issue with TQ and injectors,at exact same time. I have an epic thread on it somewhere. Because the TQ had been identified as a problem, and the juddering, even after rebuild and new Sonnax valve, was still said to be issue. Mechanics kept saying go back to gearbox guys. Gearbox guys kept saying it's fixed, don't know why it's juddering. Turned out , that at the start, it had been TQ and injectors, but one wasn't thought of because of the other.
Maybe the OP has the opposite issue, everyone looking to injectors, but TQ may also be kicking off.

Because if the Torque Convertor Lock Up Clutch isn't locking up, this causes excessive slippage and hence MPG will be affected.

I have just replaced 2 injectors on my 530d (Same engine) which were leaking back execssively, but there was no judder, stutter or other symptom except for hard starting issues and low HP pressure fault on diagnotics (due to the 2 injectors leaking back excessvely meanign the fuel rail couldn't maintain pressure)

Non-injecting injectors will cause a very rough idle.

He has since unplugged inj.No.1 and has noted no change in engine note or running - so would NOW suggest injectors....but by far the most common cause of judder and vibration on the early Td6's is the gearbox torque converter.
 
If the clutch isn’t locking correctly then surely you would feel this as symptoms similar to a slipping clutch in a manual ie engine revs and poor take off from traffic lights ect
 
Sort of. It masks it with the VCU so you can’t identify so easily.

My manual is similar in fact that on a cable clutch you can feel the slip easily but with a hydraulic system topped up you can’t feel it too much through the pedals.
Will slip and mpg go bad, then get a bit better when it wears down to the rivets. Then bang it’s gone without warning.
