Help! After a mere 4 weeks of ownership we're locked out of our '99 Disco.:eek:

The remotes won't work and the key just seems to turn the barrel through 90 degrees in either direction from the upright when I try to unlock/lock using the driver's door lock. It's the only external lock on the vehicle!!:confused: Suggests to me that the lock is u/s! Am I right?

The "alarm" red light is flashing on the dash, which suggests to me that the vehicle battery is okay, although I might be wrong. Can't get inside the car to pull the bonnet release to check it.

The car has been laid up on an axle stand for a couple of days while I've been awaiting delivery of a new rear suspension airbag, although I can't believe this has anything to do with it. Can't even get in to the car to get the locking wheel nut to enable me to take the wheel off to fit the airbag.

Any ideas how I can get in to it, short of putting a brick through one of the windows?

Any sensible suggestions would be really appreciated. Right now, I'm up the creek without a paddle.

try putting the key in the passenger dor and opening it. you could also renew the batteries in your fob ;)

Cheers for the speedy response Yella. Sadly, no lock on the passenger door handle, or the rear door:mad:

Will pick up some new batteries for both remotes tomorrow, but they were working fine on Monday when I locked it up. :confused:
 
There is a sequence of turns with key somany left somany right with key to open it, tells you in hand book about it, but you need to get the right order from main dealer

That'll be the handbook that's locked away in the glove box at the mo! Just replaced the batteries in the remotes (for once I'm in praise of Tesco :rolleyes: ) but nothing doing. Looks like I'll be phoning the main dealer 2moro. Based on previous experience I'm not expecting a great deal of help from them. Will let you know how I get on.

Got the Emergency Key Access (EKA) code off the vehicle security card that we had fortunately filed away for safe keeping. Got the correct door lock sequence from Land Rover.
(If anyone ever needs it, just PM me and I'll send it to you or post it on the forum).
However, tried going through the procedure a dozen times now. Still nothing. :mad:

Running out of patience. But will keep trying until one of us gives in.

If I crack before the Disco does, would anyone be interested in a '99 TD5 XS? Would need to be trailered away :D
 
Not much help I know but I had a similar problem in that my remote batteries packed up (on all three keys at once). however, I could unlock the car and open the door but the alarm kept going off. The emergency key code is to disable the alarm. I also struggled with the code as you lose a bit of patience when the alarm is sounding off late at night. I didn't read the instructions fully in my haste and forgot that after the last digit is entered with the key, you must turn it once to the right to activate it or something like that.. If you cannot get the door to unlock manually, it sounds like the lock itself is stuffed.

Are you a member of a breakdown organisation? If you are, call em out. If you are not then join em today and call em out tomorrow. AA and greenflag are only about £40 for basic cover. A locksmith or local garage call out will be around £100. You vehicle IS easy to get into it is just fiddly if you don't know what you are doing and don't have the proper tools.

As long as it's covered by your policy, taxed, mot'd and insured you won't have any problems. Patrols only get arsey when owners fail to properly maintain their vehicles. You are showing that you DO maintain it. If the patrol does get arsey then just explain that you were working on it when you got locked out. If he still moans then complain to the breakdown club. I have gone out to vehicles that have been stood for 6 months plus to get them going.

It only takes about 1 minute to get into a discovery so it shouldn't be too taxing for them.:D
 
We're in!

Took the breakdown guy just under 5 minutes to "break" in to it. Looks like there might be a broken connecting rod in the door lock, which is why it didn't want to play!

As soon as there was "movement" inside the Disco the alarm went off and it responded to the remote fob again. Hey presto.
Fired up first time.

Oh the joys of Land Rover ownership :rolleyes:

Waiting for the next problem to present itself now.
