Hi , the other woman in my life has started running like a bag of bolts and im a bit stumped.( she (KATY) is my 2003 03 plate freelander 3 door kalahari td4 ) it started about a week ago, i was in hastings and came out to katy , started her up and she sounded like a petrol firing on 3 ish cylinders, but when she warmed up it nearly ran ok. but by the time we got back to hull she was running rough all the time, so first thind i put 2 bottles of injection cleaner through her and changed the fuel filter. ( only done 6000 miles ago ) , to no avail. so after checking on landyzone i then changed the maf sensor and bingo that seemed to do the trick, ish.. now she seems to run ok most of the time but the odd time she drops to idle and she sits at approx 700 rpm and seems to tick over a bit rough, also now when you floor it i get a bit of a turbo whistle which i never had before , although she seems to go like stink now !!. any ideas ??

Genuine Bosch MAF or ebay special ? try running with the MAF disconnected, if it runs better then could be a duff new MAF, Has the crankcase breather filter been changed ?

hi. not from ebay but an aftermarket one from driven2automotive . anyway taken new maf off again and cleaned old bosch one with electrical cleaner and it is now running ok ish , so looks like problem is maf , landrover want £190 plus vat for a genuine one, but founf a place on ebay from germany selling gen bosch for £121 plus £8 postage so gonna give that a try..

Can you be certain that the MAF is for the Freelander version of the BMW TD4 engine as the BMW is different to the L/R, the MAF is a serviceable item with life expectancy of app 100,000 miles (more or less in some cases) Have a look on Rover Ron's website as the LR/Rover TD4 engine management system is explained in considerable detail. My TD4 was suffering from hesitation on initial acceleration which was cured by fitting the Synergy and new (cheaper) Pierburg
MAF both supplied by Rover Ron.

the part number is the same as the one fitted and they say freelander in description so i think its the right one.
