Hi All! I am at my wits and right now, I have been trying to remove my alternator for the past 3 hours, It is a Di engine with air-con. Everything is disconnected the top bolt is out and the bottom through bolt has the nut off. The problem is as follows...

The bottom through bolt head is obstructed by the pipe to the power steering pump below which is totally in-flexible, I can see the 15mm connector to remove this pipe from the pump but this is obstructed by the metal aircon pipes to the aircon pump below and I cant get a spanner on it.....

I would have removed the power steering pump from its bracket but cant get to it due to alternator stuck above and aircon pump below, cant remove the aircon pump as cant get to the top bolts on the pump due to the power steering pump and alternator above it..

Anyone ever successfully removed an alternator on this engine with aircon???/ Please help.:(:(:(

Has anyone got Rave that could post a pic of the instructions? I am downloading it now but it still has 2hrs left and I am nearly out of daylight, there must be someone who has had to do this before, I cant believe landrover would design a car where the engine had to be removed to change the alternator.

There is signs that the engine has been removed at some point, wondering if the alternator was put on with the engine out and they put the nut and bolt the wrong way round?

can you keep working the bolt out cutting the end off as you go, and fit a new bolt from the other direction ?:

Hi mate, The bolt is about 6 inches long and can barely see the head so it would take a few hours cutting a few mm of at a time. I am guessing there is some knack or procedure to remove this but my internet is so slow I have given up downloading the workshop manual. I am goin to look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow and maybe it will become clear.

The rave disk tells you to disconnect the battery. Remove the engine sump guard. Drain the engine coolant. Remove the coolant hose at the lower front of the engine. Release the auxiliary belt. Undo the air con compressor bolts and move to one side (don't disconnect the air con pipes). Remove air con compressor mounting. Swap the alternator. Reverse to put back.

I am guessing I will have to start at the bottom and work my way up, strange it doesnt mention the power steering pump which is between the two, unless the pas pump is mounted on the same bracket as the aircon.....runs outside with toolbox to start again :D

i had the same problem when removing my alternator. The bottom bolt was inserted from the wrong side when the engine was worked on previously.
what i did was to remove radiator fans to get more space to be able to remove aircon pump.
then i had to undo the powersteering pipe that was in the way of the bolt
