I am new here. I'm just popping on to say 'hello' and try and get help and advice when needed.

I've recently purchased a 2.5 HSE V6 Freelander(2005) .......Auto Petrol...

OMG!.....It only seems to do around 20 mpg!!

Is it for real?

Has anyone else got one? If so, have you got any tips to make it use less fuel ! LOL! :D

I'm from Shropshire area (and, in case you're wondering, I didn't realise it was petrol until I had bought it!!.....oh, and yes.....I am female!)

:)

nobody else would admit to owning a v6 gaylander on ere

welcome btw

oh and take yr foot off the right hand side pedal will save you loads of money

I used to own a V6 Gaylander - big mistake.

19 - 20 MPG is the best you'll get.

They also eat Headgaskets for breakfast - a very very very expensive problem.

If you have any chance to get rid of it, do so!

Oh no!

Has anyone got anything helpful and encouraging to say!!?

It must have some endearing points?

I don't care if you call it a Gaylander......sticks and stones.....blah, blah, blah!!!

Can an ECU be fitted to it? (or something like that?)

oh dear you havent really thought this thru have you?
the gaylander is only reasonably ok in diesal form the petrol is useless and the v6 petrol is horrendous

Hello and welcome - unfortunately it is a welcome tinged with doom and gloom :(

My sister-in-law bought pretty much an identical Freelander to yours (despite plenty of advice to the contrary) and experienced equally poor fuel economy for the 4 months it lasted before blowing the head gasket on a trip to France and getting sold on asap after repair.

The V6 petrol is not a happy engine

.

Oh bloody hell and crap!

Why do they go through cylinder head gaskets all the time? There must be a feasible explanation?

I'm not a mechanic or anything like that, but there has to be a SIMPLE explanation guys (and gals if there are any out there who can answer this question too!)

Thanks :=-)))

Coz it is an engine which is designed to run hot, the cooling is inadequate, the thermostat is on the return from the radiator (so the water is coolest), because it is a V6, the bank at the back has little or no air flow and it was built by Land Rover.
I hope you have deep pockets - my KV6 cost me £6.5K in repairs in 13 months, but it is a wonderful motor, dont let anyone tell you otherwise.

yu DO have a prop between the front and back, dont you?

Petrol is better than doozle IMHO I have one, it pulls like a train and does about 30 mpg.
Doozle is underpowered smelly and slow, it also costs a fortune when it goes wrong.

Drive one, a good one, before offering advice :)

Try posting in the Freelander section love, the tractors sometimes make the odd useless comment on there but you'll mainly get good constructive advice.

Please!.....no mean comments....not necessary. I'm on here asking for help and advice, not bad words okay! :D

Thanks for your informative reply The Mad Hat Man.

Thanks Hoyt-Protec for your advise too.

Hey Sean ..... "utter crap"....you say? Well, thanks for the constructive advice.

I'm a little annoyed to say the least buying this vehicle and not doing my homework first...(I know I have no one else but myself to blame) ..so please...don't rub it in eh!!

Things seems bad enough as it is :(
