Im totally new to this. I have just bought a Landrover defender 90, 200tdi (year 1990) I have wanted one for years and finally decided to buy one.

It had been neglected, leaking water hose, no oil change for many years leaking from the sump, air filter coated in oil. I have repaired those parts and my next challege is to sort out the squealing noise when its on full lock.

It squeals when you try and turn after starting the engine, but once the engine has warmed, it only makes a noise when full lock is on, and shakes me to pieces.

If anyone could give me any ideas that would be great. Could it be the power steering belt, or maybe something more drastic. I have checked the power sterring fluid level and its fine.

Many thanks :crazy_driver:

welcome to Landyzone

Are you sure it's not just your fan belt slipping until it warms up?

sounds like a fan belt/power steering belt that's either too slack or worn. check that its tight enough (should have a small amount of movement when pulling it towards you) and also check for signs of wear and cracks!! a new one from paddocks is literally £2 or £3 lol :)

Thank you it was the belt.

Its great now and the steering is so much lighter. Now onto the next job.......
