The most I had on is 4 tons scalpings plus the 14 foot trailer so 41/2 tons for me.
Might be a good idea to look up the maximum axle loading's and stick to them.

It doesn't matter how much weight is on the trailer (or the weight been pulled) if its loaded correctly the trailers nose weight should be within spec. Agree with wammers OEM vehicle spec, is the key here.
I've personally tow started a loaded 38 ton artic with a rope.

Most of the weight is on the lorrys wheels so there's not that much weight to tow

No its still attached.
All of the lorries weight is on its wheels, I personally find a towrope a bit to flexible to transfer any nose weight to a towbar at all....
On a level road surface, a large diameter tow rope (has a kinetic effect), low box and a senible lorry driver you only have to get lorry rolling, its own weight starts the engine....
