Because I would....... That's the design of it...... And fitting renault parts is just wrong on so many levels.

That's why I did mine properly and posted a helpful guide a couple of years ago. Bodges annoy me. Why change something that was designed to work as it originally was? If you can improve it, fine, but bodging it is simply malpractice IMHO.

If you're competent it'll take 4 hrs, not 6.

It is improving it..... Will take ten minutes to change in future AND i will have heating and that will be an even bigger improvement

Its not exactly a bodge its just making life easier as i said fair play to you guys that have the money to pay a garage to fix it or the time to diy repair, i dont have either at the moment.
Winter is looming and i will be on call to provide assistance to the local hospital if we have bad weather all im interested in is my car working reliably, safely and capably.

I meant improving it with a carefully considered design, not a Heath Robinson hack

However, I see where you're coming from in this instance. Post your results up once you've done the job :)

10 mins to change in future? How long are you intending keeping it? Replacing the original would also give you heating!

:behindsofa:

Let's say you will sell it before it ever fails again. The mod takes 30 minutes, the "proper" fix takes 4 hours.

You're still 3:30 up on the deal.

Time = money. In my case, that 3:30 is worth enough to me that I would do this if my thermostat failed.

Its an each to there own i think. Its not a safety related item on the car so im happy to try a cheaper less time consuming fix.... If it was brakes or something that could be an issue then it would be replaced by tge book
