Chances are your temp gauge does not get past 1/4?
If so, probably your stat is stuck open, which is quite common for these.
Bad news is changing the original stat is quite a job.
Good news is you can leave it alone and fit an in-line stat into the car, which will let it run up to 1/2 on the temp gauge in no time, and give you a nice toastie heater output
