i mean wiring loom and gauges done the mod for the temp gauge all td5

engine box origanal 200 tdi

and the wiring was quite easy actully
just cant get my head round heaterplugs yet

What conversion?

Take a deep breath, start from the beginning and use full sentences.. cos you sound like a loon :D

to let everone know i have put a td5 bulkhead and dash
in a 200 tdi
i am using a complete td5 wiring harness i have don the mod to get
the temp gauge working i have all wiring sorted cut out and put away
the only issue i have is the heater plugs ,,
if i leave the ecu under the drivers seat connected i have the coil wire on dash come on
the heater rely works for the time and switches off ///
if i take the plugs out of the brain i cant get the heaters to do there cycle ??

has anyone done this before and without just putting a button on the dash
i would ;like to get rid of the brain as it only use is for the heaters at the momment
hope this all makes sense
cheers mike

They way I have done it in the past is to trigger it with a separate relay from the back of the ignition on the point between ignition and cranking like an early 2.5NA.
Then another relay giving switched earth for the light on the dash

You have answered your own question mate.
On the TD5 the glows (or more accurately the glow relay) are controlled bythe ECU including timeout and extended running when cold etc.

The only way you are going to get them to work is to build a timer circuit triggered by the ignition or manually operate them with a separate switch via a heavy relay which would be my preffered and by far the cheapest option.

There are some timed relays out there used in heated front/rear screen circuits like my wife's Volvo which would do the trick. Problem is I dont know if the time delay is adjustable and they might be on for too long.

Use a 300 tdi glow plug timer relay! It switches on with the ignition, the light goes out after a preset time and it continues heating after the light goes out to reduce smoke on start up.
