Hi,
I'm installing a couple of Wipac 7" headlights in a one-off car I'm building. There's a line running across the lens that I believe forms the top of the dipped beam pattern. Should this line be horizontal when installed, or should it be at an angle to the horizontal? I'm fitting it using Defender lamp holders; these have adjusters at approx 12 O'clock and approx 9 O'clock positions; if I put the top one at exactly 12 O'clock then the line is not quite horizontal. It's not obvious which is right! I've contacted Wipac but got an auto-reply saying they're on holiday until 25th - I'd like to get the lamps in before then!
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Generally the line is horizontal with a 'kick up' on the left to illuminate the nearside better. The adjusters need to be at 12 & 9 so you can adjust them properly, can you rotate the headlight in the holder by loosening the three little clamp screws? I wouldn't be to worried about setting the beam exactly horizontal, within a few degrees is probably fine, you could always ask a local garage to check them on its beam tester

From memory ....I think slackening the 3 screws won't allow rotation of the unit, isn't there lugs that locate the light to the bowl?
It's been a while though.....

From memory too :rolleyes:.... I think there are three clamp locations on the bowl but can't remember if there is a peg or locating dowel to position the bowl in the clamp, if there isn't there may be a bit of wiggle room to skew the bowl slightly. However if the adjustment screws are at 12 & 9 on a fender and the bowl is pegged to the clamp then if the OP has his adjustment screw positions at 12 / 9 then surely the horizontal alignment must be the same as it would be on the fender?

Yes, I agree.
In a nutshell, I'm pretty sure that once the whole lot is assembled as one the only thing to get wrong is the location of the 3 holes in the panel that secure the whole assembly to the car.
Using the 9 and 12 'o' clock adjuster positions as a guide all should be well.

Correct, there are three clamp locations on the bowl and the positions on the back of the lamp should have lugs to line them up correctly. Make sure you have the two adjuster points correctly located, mine are actually at 6 and 9 o'clock.
