Gents took heads off today and this is what I found

The head bolts were only just nipped up on the bank on drivers side no wonder it over heated good news is that the liners are firmly in place and hopefully new gaskets and she will be good as gold. Will keep everybody informed as I go still cant believe the tensions on those head bolds one side approcx 65 ft lbs the other guestimate at 20 anyone seen gaskets like these before??

The missing bits were under the inlet manifold so trying to get all the swarf out before it does any damage yep thought typical of me could have waited another year lol

This was a new engine from Landrover 4yrs ago ok bought it cheap but still it should have been spot on my own fault for not checking before fitting still only took 4 hrs to get them off now to get them skimmed

I'd just scotchbrite the head and block, throw the gasket out and suck it and see.

Ha well boys think might use some of the missus's eye liner that should seal it up interestingly the engine was really hot yet even with the head hardly held on she ran sweet strange world
will post some pics of block tomorrow may have a bit of damage would welcome your advice gents
Going to paint the rocker covers bright red I can feel the devil in me lol

Make sure they are Payen gaskets at least non of the ching wan shun type ****.

I can only think it went due to the heater matrix having a problem lost a bit of fluid pressurised and blew the top hose off and all coolant so got a tad hot but think it was deteriorating for some time due to the bolts on head only being torqued to about 20 lbs ft

So why only on one side also the bolts on the other head wee all over the place with torque anyway good news liners are still in place although there is a mark on one pot but the light wasnt good enough to see will post pic tomorrow for opinions

Pop over to rr.net. Loads of yanks there. You should be able to pick up a vanity mirror for the UK driver's side easily enough.
