hi guys so my 4.4 v8 petrol (m62) has decided to throw it's dummy out, it's been running a few degrees hotter the last few weeks, anyhow last week i found the top rad hose seeping water around the clip on connector, so i bought a new genuine pipe and fitted it today, anyway bled the system had the heaters blowing hot as you would expect, it was sitting at 108 degrees took it out to test drive in less than a mile temp shot up to 132 degrees, luckilly i headed back as soon as it started to go the wrong way. anyway left it an hour to cool checked the coolant full of air again so topped it up (i was upto 15ltrs of coolant at this point)took it out and litterally in less than half a mile temp was off the scale again. anybody had an independant look at doing the head gaskets on one of these? and rough idea of cost? with the cars value it's a case of if it's worth doing or sending the old girl to the parts bin in the sky.

If yer handy with the spanners, hg is diy-able.

If you have to pay a garage, prepare for financial pain.

First do a compression check, second do a hydrocarbon sniff test, third bleed the system through many many times, airlocks are so easy to happen on the m62......are your hoses rock solid?

Then, start considering if it is hg ir not.

You sure it's HGF? I'd be doing a lost of check as suggested by SV8 before jumping to conclusions, it's not a Rover V8.

I’ve got to the bottom of it now I hope, I did have running problem, temp was racing to 132 degrees in less than a miles driving, however I found my lpg receiver was bubbling and spitting out water which of course was letting air in, that was air locking the water getting into the rad. I’ve bypassed it now and bled it, took it for a run and it did peak at 112 degrees but soon came back down to 109/110 still a bit warmer than it has been running but possibly they run a bit warmer in winter to allow for the colder external temp who knows anyway hopefully it’ll be ok if not more tests to come.

Iv just bought one of these with a supposed hg failure, garage diagnosed it. Iv filled it, bleed it driven it did a compression test.......no hg failure so I'm a happy bunny.
Ant iv sent you a text regarding dropping your locking tool off mate when and where is good for you ?
