well I have been fed up for a while and thought about doing the tratters advise 1gallon and a box of matches, But I love my freelander I had it put on the local lr garage and it said vacuum valve the one on the back of the engine could this be causing all my trouble of no go when I put my foot down but only sometimes ,
So I replaced all vacuum pipes and both valves (front and back) but no luck but coming back on Tuesday my car was struggling , so I though why not buy a Hawkeye so it came and it will not work on my freelander 2006 td4 auto but it does on the wife’s freelander 1998 1800 I checked the advert and it does say for all Landrover , I rang them and they said they would get a technician to ring me but nothing so I rang again and they said Monday so here I sit with plastic holder in hand and a lighter please do not tempt me but has anybody else had this ,after al said and done something keeps telling me to get the fuel filter changed.

Fuel filter sounds like a good start.

Poor show on the Hawkeye support. For the money you would expect better than that. Might be worth plugging in 1 of those cheap ODB dongles just to make sure the socket is working OK on the car.

On some Td4's the HawkEye may not see the engine computer when first entering the engine computer menu option for the Td4 for the first time. This is common to some other readers anorl. It's more likely to happen on chipped Freelanders but if it does there's ways round it.

Yer should be picking DDE 4.0 option 6 in the engine option list. If yer can't get in with the engine not running, and the ignition electrics switched on only, then where do yer get to before it won't go any further or it tells you there's a problem?

If yer can't get into the engine live data when the engine is already running then go into the engine live data before starting the engine, then start the engine. The engine starting process will pull down the battery volts when starting. If the volts drop too low the HawkEye wont have sufficient power to stay alive. This will cause it to reset when the power rises after starting. Easy way round this is to make sure the battery has a good charge then switch oft the engine, then start the process of going in as just said.

thanks hippo I have a cheap reader and that works ok so I gather the plug in point is ok will have another go later.

Thanks Hippo I tried it by starting the engine first and I think it is working now nice to know people on here can help better than Hawkeye people .I have got the pump and filter changed to day so tomorrow I will test it but it seemed a bit better on start up .

It's the weekend so I don't think they'll be at work. Also yer could be on a list of calls to make. Support only goes as far as getting a connection to work.

Well they have just rung me and gone through the process and it is not working properly so it is going back, the new pump is squealing so I have been to the shop and they said it sounds faulty and did me a better deal on a Bosch one so that has been changed while the sun was shining and the will give me a refund on the faulty unit ,also all the vacuum system has been check and is working like it should , it has amazed me how much dirt has come out of the filter and old pump.

@teddywood1
If it helps, when my TD4 auto did that and I couldn't find anything wrong with it and no codes were being thrown up.
I took the MAF sensor out and blasted it with LiquiMoly MAF cleaner, then put a tank load of Texaco supreme diesel in with a double dose of Miller's eco boost and 500ml of mineral 2 stroke.
I then drove it like I'd stolen it, it drank the tank of fuel within 200 miles, but it sorted it;)

I put it down to a build up of gunk in the system, but can't say for sure. It still sets off sharpish to this day.

thanks Skinny Mike it is going to have new heater plugs in today and I have a spare maf and map so they can be tried

well the hawkeye went back I could not get it to work properly ,and now I have a Icarsoft the latest one and I put it in and strait away it came up with MAP sensor so I have brought one but I had one in December and I asked if I found the receipt could I take the first one back ok euro car parts said so will let you know if it works I have had this problem about 10 months now and I am sick of it .

What brand was it?
3rd party sensors are renowned for failing, but as the Bosch is so expensive people buy the cheaper ones.

It was one a funny named one, I will have to look but great news we have replaced the map and at the same time replace glow plugs as they were getting a bit tired, my wife found out the old receipt for the map and it was purchased in December last year so has not lasted long but being it was guaranteed for life, it went back and I got the money back for the new one I had brought so all is well and the best thing so is the car now.them iCarsoft are real easy to work best bit of money I have spent for a long time.

well it lasted a day I have a long journey tomorrow but on Wednesday I am going to put a new Maf into it a peirburg one as I gather they are the better one to put in.

I have a pre tuning thing you put on the cam shaft sensor and the put the wire on that I also have a new bosch maf as well so I do not know which to put on ,but after today do I need it , well yesterday I checked the oil and water and so on when I noticed there was a bit more of the diesel mist on all the turbo pipes so I examined them and the elbow had a split in it ,I gather it was not put on properly when I had my new turbo put on the t bracket was not strait and this hole had formed so luckily I had the old one there was nothing wrong with it, I had just changed to silicon ones , any how I started off this morning and it was chugging and I had a 230 mile trip to make but as I got near to the place I was going it seemed to get better and better , and on the way back well I am glad there were no boys in blue around, I think it might have burnt of all the crap in the engine and turbo tubes etc. but this was no thanks to the hawkeye total that I had brought as it did not tell me anything and I am now more than sure it was second hand no way was that new , and I have been told they buy second hand one to re sell again thanks GOS but now the icarsoft one is brill it did its job and much more now I will just have to see over the next holiday how good it is. but I also must say thank you to all on here who have tried to help I think that what Landyzone is all about
