Hi All
I went to visit Clarky 130 today so that he could re wire my butchered stereo, I can't tell you how knowledgable this guy is with Range Rover stereo's, it was a horrible 3 hour drive there, but after Clarky had worked his magic its was a fantastic 3 hour drive home with a sound system to die for.
I really can't recommend this man enough, what a fantastic bit of kit he has developed.
Clarky thank you so much

You're very welcome Andy - it was a pleasure working on your beautiful motor! Such a shame somebody seems to have gone to such lengths to butcher it!!

Hi! Clarky....I got a clarion tape-deck radio (only BBC2) and a 6xcd multichanger in the boot (which dont work somehow) in my 1998 P38. I'd love to change the clarion head for a Kenwood unit with ipod dock that I have, but the local garage reckons that I cant change the head unit due to the car having two amps??? I know nothing about the electrickery side of things to argue!!....are they right?
I read your post with interest....will your adaptor allow me to use the Kenwood head unit?
If so how can I buy one?....answers on a postcard please!
Cheers
D.R

Your local garage are incorrect. You car in fact has 4 amps, one in each door, and a fifth built into the subwoofer (if your system is the Harman / Kardon one, that is!).

My lead allows you to fit any head unit of your choosing. I will PM you a link to my guide - let me know if you want to DIY or have me make you one up!

Hi Clarky

A DSP equipped Alpine's rear. I think.

Hi Clarky

A DSP equipped Alpine's rear. I think.

That loom definitely appears to have been buggered around with, as none of the wiring colours are standard! I suspect it has been butchered in the past and someone has rebuilt it with new plugs and wires - which is no bad thing... As long as they have got it right!!!

Clarky - More pictures of spaghetti

Bit more description in the PM I'll send shortly

That looks like the loom off a Parrot hands free kit.

Cheers - I was just going to ask - WTF, over???

You can remove it all, leaving just the original yellowish 8-pin plug behind - assuming you don't need a 'parrot' device plugged up to your HU?

Doh!

Yes. There is a Parrot hands free kit installed.

Sorry Clarky; should have read this first..............

Car Selector

found this for steering wheel controls. don't know if it is valid or not.

I've just wired in the PAC SWI-JACK version to control my JVC head unit (with SAT nav, blue-tooth handsfree etc) and it works perfectly. Programming was easy and the steering wheel controls now work a charm. I only needed the one unit, there weren't additional bits required, although I can't find a UK supplier for these, so I imported from the USA, got stung for the VAT duty and handling charge though, but well worth the money. :D

I've just ordered one. Quite cheap on ebay. Fingers crossed on the duty etc...

I got a lead from Mr.C. It is now connecting a Blaupunkt Woodstock head unit, with bluetooth and the sub connected and it sounds amazing, my 13 year old asked me to turn it down ! now theres a first. The speaker system is superb with little or no distortion even when the head unit is maxed out to Pearl Jam. Result.

Greetings from NZ everyone… newbie here.

Hi Clarky, sorry to drag up an older topic... but I have just joined the fellowship.
Although not new to the heady world of LR ownership I have recently become intimately acquainted with a certain little minx called P38.

HU replacement is on the ‘to do’ list as with so many other owners… But y
es, I too am plagued by the phantom buzzing afflicting so many others and reading the comments and threads on the subject obviously lead me to believe you are the veritable Happy Potter of solutions.
Already have the most commercially available leads from Dear ol' Blighty (as there is bugger all down this neck of the woods!!), but still it persists.
Would you mind forwarding the info please? richiemurray@gmail.com would probably be the best way for now.

Thanks v much everyone

None of the commercially available leads are suitable for the job, as they don't attenuate or impedance-match the new HU to the amps. PM me if you want a copy of my guide, I'll send you a link.
