Hi Goonarmy.

£110 is good value considering that an instructor who knows the trails well is with you at all times to guide, warn, navigate etc. Very useful when you've not been there before and worth paying for to not get stuck.
No, its not.Be told.If theres danger of getting stuck, you shouldnt have driven it.

Yes, I am aware what public perception is and it applies to ramblers too. It's about time someone fought back on these people. They are ill-informed rabble who some people in this thread are pandering to. Large or small group, doesn't matter if you're not causing damage, inconvenience or trouble, none of which we did.
You wanna fight people for your hobbie? How about comply by the recomendations given out by the people whos JOB (not hobby) it is to fight for our rights.Fighting against recomondations is a bad strategy-divide and conquer.
I do not work for Protrax just to state for the record. I have nothing to do with them except as a satisfied customer. Mind you, the way some people are slagging them off I suspect they must work for the opposition / competing organisation.
In that case listen to others that have more knowledge/experince/general common sense. They're bad news, bad for the greenlaning community as a whole and charging your for summit youve paided your RFL and everything else for already.Would they take you for a tour of the M4?
YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO WHAT IS BEING SAID.

LOL ... from LRO forum regarding 'Wild Wales November 08" ..
Land Rover Owner :: View topic - Wild Wales - 8/9 November

I quote ... and coloured my responses ...

"It was in Happy valley that the D3 lost its side steps on both sides"
"Now at this point the 3rd vehicle in the group became grounded on his front diff after 20 minutes of pushing rocking etc we got him free"

Shows good guidance and recovery skills?

"If we had carried on along the ruts most of us would have grounded so we tried to pull out of the ruts. This caused one disco to get stuck sideways and have to be towed out."

"In hindsight we should have spotted each other along this area however as we were at the back we came around the corner to see one of the discos at a 45 degree angle"

I thought you said the instructors guided all newcomers through the sections? .. as you said "£110 is good value considering that an instructor who knows the trails well is with you at all times to guide, warn, navigate etc. Very useful when you've not been there before and worth paying for to not get stuck."

"The one wheel had got close to the edge and the side had given way casuing the drivers side of the vehicle to fall into the gulley. Well and truly stuck we tried everything to get the jammed vehicle out. After 3 hours another group of off roaders found us and allowed us to join our kinetic rope to their kinetic rope in their group which finally gave us the distance to pull the disco out using another vehicle on good surface"

So not only were you not guided properly, the group was unable to recover itself .. doesn't seem that professional to me, especially as it was a different group who recovered them!!!

Yes, you're right, well worth £110 ... in never-never land.

I'm with you there to some extent.

They are ill-informed rabble who some people in this thread are pandering to.

No sorry, lost me again. I'm also a 'rambler' as well as a landy driver (and I have a mountain bike for that matter)
They are not all ill informed rabble.

Of course there is a minority of idiots in all groups.

Large or small group, doesn't matter if you're not causing damage, inconvenience or trouble, none of which we did.

The point people are trying to make is that 18 in a row IS an inconvenience and trouble.
Maybe the reason you didn't see any walkers is that they have given up using that path because of all the vehicles. Have you considered that?

And just for the record, I couldn't give a stuff about how much you paid - I'm with you there. If you want to pay to be led round, good for you. If they want to charge - fine.
I found some people that will help/lead me for free - so I'm happy.

Me .. "Give it just a bit more welly"

Tim .. "I am ..."

Me .. "Well give it a load then " ... ;)

Good guidance??

Whats easier for a council to do. Spend money on a byway or close it off because they have complaints??? Which do you think the council would sooner do??

So all you have to do is complain and the council immediately shuts it? My God, we must be careful.

 and other stuff

I don't think I am getting through to you, am I?

If I attempted all roads that are on Ordnance Survey maps without an instructor then sooner or later I would get stuck. There are lanes out there which are deemed passable by the map but are not in reality. My £110 means that an instructor surveys these trails before I get there so that I know I am not going to get stuck as was actually the case this time when some idiots decided to chew up a trail which the council applied a voluntary TRO to meaning we couldn't go down it.

ow this is a beauty :hysterically_laughi

you genuinely think old cobbers leaves before you to recce the route? Unbelievable. They do what most of us do, plan the route and go drive it... with you in tow. Yes they have done the route, again like most of us, we know the routes and plan accordingly.

Have to employ that line in my T&C's when we get started

Jimy old boy, it is us that are not getting through. You are stupid. Its a shame but you are.The instructors werent much help on the difflock thread, they neede another group to get em unstuck.
THIS IS BAD!
The bods on the tour shouldnt have got stuck in the first place!
THIS IS ALSO BAD.
PROTRAX ARE BAD.
Clear enough?

Sadly not, Goon. You're still confused and not listening to anyone other than your internet mates. People get stuck in green lanes you know? It happens, especially if that person is a novice, in which case they'd need an instructor wouldn't they? I can't imagine that everyone has the giddy heights of your abilities in a Land Rover, Goon!

Yes, Griffy, and I will direct your potential customers to this thread.

Perhaps you would like to write to Protrax and ask them if they did a recce?
