I totally agree, they have done the LR brand good regards sales etc....but my gripe is they used the Range Rover name and it has cheapened the name/brand that is meant to be the pinnacle of luxury 4x4's....in my mind, all it has done is bring down the Range Rover heritage.

.... If you point and laugh (literally) at Evoque drivers???

I certainly do!!

Have to admit I try to catch the driver's eye and give a sad smile whilst shaking my head. Thought it was compulsory to let them know that it's not quite right. :D

It's even more than that. It's lost the position of the brand in the marketplace. Along with the decision to halt production of the defender it has removed a successful product from the marketplace entirely.

The Range Rover position has always been a 4x4 with luxury capabilities, that it why is has been the success it has over its years in pretty much every corner of the world.

The defender has been a utility vehicle that not only farmers, off roaders, utility owners and even governments have bought in their tens of thousands from military applications through to police, rescue, survey uses and so on.

The Ejoke, under the range rover badge not only displaces but retracts the brand from the marketplace it has dominated.

The Defender production, being stopped and tooling and manufacture and sales moving to India again not only displaces but retracts the brand from the marketplace it has also dominated.

Both are drastic failures to understand not only the product, but also the market the product serves. There is usually only one result when that happens.

Of course TATA own the brand so it's their choice to do with what they will. However, yet again this is a prime example of UK industry ****ing away its market lead and its current and future customer base and the demise of a brand that has forged a market position for 50 years.

The only reason BMW bought the company was because it needed funding to develop its product range and BMW had the capital to do it.

This is probably the result of the time under BAE ownership, who also fecked up the Hawker aircraft, not wanting to manufacture it anymore sold it off to Raytheon, with all the tooling, inventory and rights, for less than the tooling was worth, for Raytheon to restart manufacture in the US.

Once again the lack of capital for UK industry sees it being sold off to overseas owners who do with it what they will.

the Land Rover brand as it was, is over.

Jaguar F-PACE, will be based on its C-X17 concept car.

Jaguar Land Rover says it will create 1,300 new jobs to build Jaguar's first sports utility vehicle (SUV) at its Solihull plant in the West Midlands.

I can't disagree with you. When I heard that the Defender was being discontinued that is what I thought too.
Was it said that something like 50% of all Landies made were still on the road?
All we can do now is look after them, keep them going, and I do think that in time the P38will be considered a classic too. The last proper landy.

It already is. The prices solidified on the P38 and good examples are going up in value.

Look at the Classic.. a couple of years ago you could get a nice example for 1,500-2,000 now that buys you one needing restoration
