hi could anyone tell me why my p38 seems to wander, i have just done 400 miles (mostly motorway) and i was having to correct the steering all the time.
i have just fitted monroe adventure shocks all round which has improved the ride slightly.could the steering rack or damper be the problem?thanks.

What tyres and wheels are you running......my 19" ones wander like crazy....the older ones seemed a lot more steady

thanks for your replies the wheels are 18"hurricanes and the tyres are general grabbers(quite chunky)so this might be contributing to the wandering.I have been told that anti roll bars could be a factor too(any thoughts greatly received)cheers

I'm new to the Rangie, but on my previous 4 X 4 wandering was due to the front tracking being out (toe in/out) Once it was re-aligned it was fine. My P38 is rock steady but it had new track rods and the alignment done before I bought it.

I find the rangie does like to tramline on the motorway to.....it seems to like following the hgv imprints

Yeah mine also picks up the HGV grooves. Think mine is over due re-alignment but that said i did notice an improvement in everyday driving once i had fitted the bilstein steering damper.

Mine was dreadful - but tyres seemed to make all the difference. Pirelli Scorpion STs 18" using RR Hurricane rims seem to work best on mine, otherwise it tends to track in HGV lines, waft about and wander around.......was quite scary when I first got the Rangie, but after 4 years I'm used to it and if I use the STs, it doesn't happen.

Hi Gents

I have experienced this problem a lot - I have found it is due mostly to the tyres. P38's prefer Pirelli Scorpion ST - Goodyear Wranglers really make them wander to the point of getting so lively on rough tarmac / cats eyes etc that you may need to change your shorts ....

I have previously swapped a set of good wrangler clad wheels with a set of scopions between 2 rangies to test it out and the bad handling followed the tyres.

Hello all.

I had Goodyear Wranglers on my 99HSE. The car was very unsteady. I replaced the front wranglers with Avon Sports-the handling was totally transformed. I'm now going to replace the rears. I got them from my tyres.com-around £108 fitted.
