Evening all, after spending too much time today searching my garage and home for various spanners and sockets, I have decided my bits and pieces aren't worth a crap.

Having searched the forum and seeing posts from quite recently stating that the various socket and spanner sets Halfords sell (the advanced pro sets ) are quite reasonably thought of.

I was wondering if this was still the case and would I really go wrong with one from there ( I'm looking at either the 150 or the 170 piece kits ).

Should I be looking anywhere else for similar kits at similar prices.

Dave

I rate them if you are a weekend spanner warrior - you won't go far wrong. I have a 150 piece set that lives in my boot.

I often grab that rather than the Snap-on stuff out of my toolbox. You can tell the difference but pound for pound.... You would only get a set of 8-19mm 3/8 snap-on sockets (when they are on offer and not including VAT) for the price of a full set from halfords.

Keep your receipt though, although halfords profesional range have a lifetime garentee some shops will only honour it with a receipt.

For the money, the advanced and professional kits are bloody good, obviously there's better on the market, but very little beats them in their price bracket!

Had some of mine for 15 years. Been hit with hammers, hung off with scaffold poles and generally abused. Only thing i broke was a 1/4 to 3/8 adaptor

I started with one of these sets as well... My 1/2 ratchet has so many hammer marks on it...... I just can't break it! And I have been knoepwn to be slightly animalistic at times. I have had numerous ratchet and pawl kits in my Big Mac tools ratchet but. Even with a pipe over the end of the halfords one...... No problems!

I bought a torx bit set, the professional range, and managed to snap one through my own stupidity. Took it back and the guy in the shop just said "no problem, lifetime guarantee" and handed me a new one.

I've got a set and I like them a lot.

If you can bide your time they will have them at half price.

Yep all the AP stuff is currently half price, some cracking deals in there too! Might have to pop down tomorrow for a spy

Makes a good base for a decent tool set.
Just need a few breaker bars, pliers, grips, etc. Trade card is good for stuff not on special offer.
Ratchet mechanism is not covered under warranty, but repair kits cost less than a fiver, never bust one in 7 years though.

Dont know about current stuff but had mine 18 years and they have been through a refurb on a LR serise2 and mk2 jag.

Never let me down yet
