Dieseldog, maybe now is your time to shine
Sorry chaps but I'm going to have to add to the recent chain of non starting td5 threads :-( Last night I drove to my mums house which is about 20 miles away when I set off a couple of hours later I set off home got half a mile down the road and the car cut out and would not restart. First things first the battery seems healthy enough lots of cranking power. I can hear the fuel pump and it sounds smooth with no grinding or gurgling sounds I checked the red plug for oil and yes some was present.
By this point greenflag had turned up after I walked off to get some tea
We cleaned the plugs for ecu, crank sensor and injection loom with brake cleaner. Still not starting so I get it recovered home and today got a new injection loom, rocker gasket, injector seal kit and fuel non-return valve. I took the rocker cover gasket off cranked it and everything moves as it should even got to see the oil draw up on the top of timing chain which was nice and no sign of fuel contamination or leaking from injectors also oil level was about right too.
Fitted the new wiring loom and still not starting. I got my Solus Pro out to do some diagnostics, lots of error codes so I cleared them all and since trying to restart the car 2 came back apart from the ac clutch error which means nowt I got "55 Temp Gauge" and "96 Road Speed" I'm beginning to think the ecu is toast now I do have a spare one but it needs coding to my car. Would you say this is the way to go or do I shell out for a new fuel pump. I'm not able to check fuel pressure as I do not have the tool and its cheaper to buy a pump than get the kit to test it.
Some help would be much appreciated as friends and family are starting mock me and there is nothing worse than getting all the armchair mechanics telling me I should buy japanese all though they have a point :-(
