The other alternative is to just get some decet a/t tyres in the standard size (235/70 R16) which should be good enough for green laning.

Only have 235 Dakars on my Disco. Never bothered with lifting any of the cars I've had and it copes with 99% of lanes. Only one that recently defeated it was Bastard lane nr Macchynleth when I tried it the difficult direction(see utube). Needed a tow up the slippy ravine slope and the sleeper to overcome ground clearance issues. Steve has the effort on video. You will damage your front bumper if you don't modify or change it.

I must admit, this is the reason for replacing the bumper sooner rather than later.
The tyres i have fitted at the moment are Avon Rangers which are 70/30 road/off road, and have coped with the bit of laning i have done very well.
I work for Continental, so tempted to fit a set of CrossContact A/T which I've been told are rather good too.

If your planning on offroading then defiantly getting the tallest tyres possible is a good idea as no matter how tall they are they will never be tall enough!!

But I'm with every one else! Tyres first! Then at least you can come play! Any one fancie doing some pay and play this weekend? Theres loads on on Sunday?

All down to useage, budget and availability. I always go for the standard size Dakars cos I don't do pay n play anymore and like to go decent chllenge laning a distance away so need compromise of good on lane and reasonable on road. Also I don't have to lift car with that size so I can scrap it easier after 12-18 months fun and games. Also the Dakars don't cost an arm n leg to replace when you scuff one on a piece of rocky outcrop

All down to severity of lanes you wanna do. Whether you wanna do bimbles or trips to test you and your cars ability. Get out and try it before you waste cash on stuff you won't need or won't be good enough. If you get stuck the lads with you will tow you out. Then take it from there. You could spend thousands making a week end warrior to do lanes a standard disco would cope with. Or you could go the other way wanting to do tough lanes and find out where your car is lacking.

Think I'm just gonna go for some 245/70's. Should give that little extra ground clearance.

Ultimately the plan is to have a vehicle that will be happy on the lanes and capable of pay n play sites.

Tyres (and second set of rims) first, then bumpers etc after.

Oh, on my way to work today, I spotted what looks like might be a byway on the fosse way between Bretford and Rugby, I've not had a chance to look into it yet, does anyone else know if it is a byway or not?

alright peeps, me and a few other lads are going up towards alrewas on sunday morning to do a few lanes then head to a pay and play site my mate knows about, he said its pretty tame but its a good laugh, so pm me if you fancy tagging along i shall be leaving stratford about half 8/9 on sunday morning, the more the merryer :)

The gates are usually closed on that one at the Bretford end. Will definitely need clarification.
