been wonderin for a while.

specifically the rear UJ of the front prop, never seems to get the nozzle on properly, and ive never been convinced its getting greased properly, with the angle its at when greasing.

today, I seem to have been proved right, its stiffened up, took the prop off, greased and wiggled it, its loosened up, and ordered a noo one.

any better way of greasing it up??

So far, my possible ideas are, jacking the body to change the angle of the prop, trouble is, id need another jack, i jack a wheel already.
Flexible hose on the grease gun, if i greased it from the top, would it be any better.
or is there a slimmer nozzle for my Wammer gun???

They do make different angle of grease fittings, most ij's here come with 2 or 3 different grease fitting to chose from. And what I have found out is most grease guns have a ridge pipe on them, I take that off and put on a flexible/rubber hose made for grease guns, making it easier to grease them

all the UJs i have had have only had the one fitting with them, ok, it sonly 2, but still :)

wasnt sure if a flexi hose would help, as i didnt know if the gap to get the nozzle in was any bigger when it was round the top.
 
The grease nipples fitted to the UJs are set a bit deep to reach properly with most grease gun nozzles.

I searched on that well known auction website and found some longer ones, at about 10 quid for four they were a bit expensive but I found that once fitted they did make the job much easier.

Other members have talked of grinding down the sides of the grease gun nozzle so that it will fit; that might be another idea.

like that idea, never even thought of longer nipples. off over to the bay now :)
 
Large or small aureolas too! ;)

The nozzle on a flexible rubber pipe might not fit either: I was one of the members who posted up about grinding the edges of the nozzle down. I'd been unsuccessful in sourcing any longer grease nipples at a few local engineering firms so decided to set the angle grinder on the nozzle rather than wait a couple of days for nipples via ebay ;)
It was only the grease nipple on the front prop U/J which I couldn't reach initially.
 
BTW - how often should you grease the U/Js and props? As per Haynes manual etc. or more frequently? Does it depend on how much wading the vehicle does?
