Hiya, my names Tom. I wanted a proper Land Rover since I was 13, about 3 week ago I went and bought one. Here it is.

I had never driven a proper Land Rover before(although I have been in many) so I didn't really know what to expect, except that it would be noisy and uncomfortable.

It was noisy and uncomfortable and I loved every minute of it. It has holes and you can see daylight through bits of the floor and doors. The carpets were getting so wet when it rained that I took them out.

I absolutely love it. I'd drive it every day if I could. Plan is a full on resto at some point, and asap new wheels! Got this set going for a refurb soon.

As I can't stand the orange, but for the mean time just going to enjoy my first proper Landy. Tom

Hello Tom and welcome. Nice landy, I actually like the orange wheels, they set it off nicely. You could always just paint them black or lime white. What else needs doing to it?

Col

I quite like the wheels too! Congratulations on your first steps into a long, slippery, addictive and expensive descent into a world of eternally grubby fingernails, missing skin and a constant urge to lie in the drive!!

I already do that, Ive got a Range Rover as well! The chassis isn't to bad, and on the face of it the bulkhead looks excellent. I counted 4-5 places on the chassis that will require attention including the rear cross member, but let's see once it's all stripped down.
She is a v8, it was one of the reasons I bought her. Engine rebuilt about 2000 miles ago, new Edelbrock carb and exhaust, although I am toying with rebuilding the old s.u carbs and also a quieter exhaust system(its 2.5'' all the way through currently) as it's a tad in your face. I suppose I want to tone it down slightly.

Sounds like a great project! Clearly had some love if the engine has had a recent overhaul! Not many v8s about these days! I'd love one but could never run it and gas isn't that readily available round here!

Cheers, the chap i bought her off had been working through the car, but he's moving abroad and could only take his bikes. Most people I speak to have said "you'll be taking the v8 out then?" Hahaha

THIS! Same boat myself mate. I love the imperfections (that's probably being generous)

It is exactly what I imagined and a whole lot more. The Landy grin hits me every time I get in it. I love the clunky lt85 gearbox and the whiny diff. it makes you feel very involved in the driving experience which I haven't felt from a car for a very long time. The kids love it, and the dog jumped straight in the back(he normally insists on being picked up!) so I think it got the seal of approval. Yeah love it. Imperfections n'all!

Nice motor! :) Why not paint the wheels black? Steel modulars are better for most landrover purposes than alloys.

Cheers, I don't hate them, I'm just not a fan to be honest. Always preferred alloy wheels. The orange is staying for the time being as we are looking at buying a house soon. So no more spending for the time:confused:
