After everything I've been through to replace the dreaded O rings..............P38 2002
I replaced all the wife's totally necessary can't-live-without stuff into the glove box, shut the lid and it won't open. The push button release/keyhole gives no resistance whatsoever. This must be the least technical problem ever posed, but I'd rather put the charred O rings back than not gain access to the glove box. Have pity and help, please. regards P.S:mad:
 
did you remove the glovebox to do the o rings ? just wondering because i have read somewhere that they are a real pig to realign and get working properly , i am sure one of the kind souls on here will point you in the right direction though cheers.

Again, big thankyou, men. No I didn't remove the glovebox. I started the job of trying to see where water was getting in before gaining instructions from lanyzone trusty band and few. In short, I just undid everything in sight to try and remove as much as I could. I removed the three phillips from the top and the two from the sides, which I replaced without disturbing the box intself. It did open and shut a few times, but the last was a refusal to budge open. Judging from the horror stories around I think the replacement of the junk O rings seems a more savoury proposition. Still, the weather's nice. Who wants to sit by the sea drinking chilled homebrew when there's a glovebox to romance?!!! Thanks again. regards P.S:cool:

Tell me all you can about gloveboxes...mine's been jammed shut since Lancaster Landrover tried to fix it 4 years ago!

Well, the site boydonegood posted a link to was spot on. The only point was that it assumed enough room to get the cranked screwdriver in that's mentioned. There wasn't.
I used the bit out of one those million attachment screwdriver handle things with a pair of narrow pliers and/or a thin bike spanner kind of thing to turn it. I put a thou feeler under the lid side as the lid was giving the upward pressure and could have pierced the leather cloth.
Apart from that, the article was o.k.
Belt and braces, I dismantled everything to see how it worked and lubricated the cable. This is a good idea so you can remeber where all the bolt holes are etc when you come to adjust it as you can't see a thing on assembly !

And no, patience isn't one of my virtues. Once you start this job you've GOT to finish it. The dash looks a pig's ear with a dangly-down glove box lid.

Just so happens that this new to me 2001 P38 Range Rover has a missaligned glove box door. Looks like the left latch works better than the right side which is holding the door close to one CM away from the dash. The previous owner had the door repaired within the last two years. This door is rather large and heavy while covering a much smaller box.

Should not the door seal close to the dash? What is there to repair or replace to make the door seal just right?
