anybody know how they work, i have tighten the nut up behind and sometimes it says out other-times its does not...

On a related note if i start the engine (3.5 v8 on Strombergs), and the choke goes back in the car dies and then is really hard to start again, any ideas why this would be??

thx

Pull it out ... put a clothes peg behind the knob ... when you're ready, remove the peg and put it in your pocket...

Or a small set if long nose mole grips. Try a couple of squirts of throttle before restarting if it dies.
Car theft only became popular with efi:p

Thanks its a real pig esp when you have got to the bottom the road and the choke slides in and you cannot start it :).... Doubt a thief would get far ;)
