Hi

Can anyone shed some light on my gear problem please. I have recently with some help from a mate with knowledge as I have none fitted a recon gearbox (Ex-Mod) been running fine and did a 400 mile trip which went ok.

Last week the box would not select fifth without some extra persuasion, this week odd gears refuse to select. This weekend only third is available, changed the oil and got reverse 1 2 and 3 but no 4 or 5. Ran her for a while hoping she would warm up and release the remaining gears but nothing. I don't have the deep understanding of the gearbox and clutch etc so am stumped hoping someone out there has a trick or something to get me out of this sticky situation

Here's hoping as I can do another gearbox

unbolt the turret stick bolts to theres a grub screw on yoke that can come lose , if thats ok undo the 4 bolts at rear and lift selector housing off, theres a collar on selector shaft that is held in place by slotted peg on the top

JM

Many thanks, to date I have taken the turret off all appears ok, took off the rear selector housing and saw a circle with a cut away that a lever slots into, nothing seemed out of place. Don't laugh at this but with my basic knowledge and lack of results, I put her up on ramps drivers side and undid the oil plug so I could top up more oil, thinking something was stuck inside and might free itself, yes I am that desperate. This gave me R 1 2 3 smoother than when she was running but no 4 and 5 grinds and will not take. Any other ideas in lay mans would be gratefully appreciated

Hi All,

Not sure if this is going to all but I am in need of some advice as I took her to my local guy for his opinion and it is his best guess it's the synchromesh has gone on gears 4 & 5 so that leaves me with the following:

A) drop the gear box out and take it to my local guy to strip down and see what the damage is and fix from there unlimited costs as we don't know what we will find and I have to pay out to find out

B) buy a recon gearbox but this time with a ganrantee - who would you suggest as being reputable and do I get a transfer box also?

C) others suggestions as I am stuck and need a way out

its possible 3rd 4th synchro hub is been jammed on the 4th gear side or it could be worse and a bearing failure ,or your just not aligning it correctly, there is no gate alignment for 3rd and 4th is done by adjusting the spring pressing on lower lever by the 2 bolts

Would this be something that can occur over time? As I seem to have gradually started loosing the different gears and only got R123 back after r oil change and running her around the lanes for a while. I will adjust the screws tomorrow and fingers crossed that is the answer. If not then which way would you go and are you able to recommend a recon company I am based in Portsmouth - I really appreciate your time on this as its doing my nut in and all my mates are saying it's good money after bad but I don't think they get the whole Landy thing that said I haven't got the money to throw away so I need a good solution

5th gear can be fixed without stripping the whole box , a baulk ring is 6-7 pounds, it could be a fairly easy fix on 4th or box may well have other issues, or it just might be badly set up turret

You are making me feel a lot happier as my guy today was basically doom and gloom change the box. Can I ask for a direction on where I can get info on how to change that baulk ring

Sorry JM - I really only have limited knowledge and don't understand lever the quadrant into each gear - sorry if this is painful

when you took the top off theres a slotted disc shape on rear of selector shaft, if you push it forward it selects 2nd ,4th ,rearwards rev 1st 3rd and 5th, though it needs rotating to line up
