Hello. I am from Craiova - România. Sorry, you are right about the language but I really do not write very good in english.
About my Freelander1, I have a problem with the gearbox , i can gear change Ok including third gear after that it turns without coupling, I can't use 4 and 5 gears and I do not understand what this is : there are the valves,the senzors or the gear box should be changed. .I have to say that two weeks ago I have changed the oil in the gearbox and nothing changed and I saw no improvement. Please tell me if have any ideea about the problem or some advice about this.Thank you very much and I am waiting your advice or ideea.
 
Is it automatic?
If it is then I had the same problem with my gearbox. I tried everything, and have just sold it cheap because I can't fix it.
 
¡Hola! Antes de cambiar este fantástico coche o caja de cambios, creo que merece la pena hacer algunas pruebas. Entiende que intentaré ayudarte con la mejor voluntad ... ¿Has intentado cambiar al quinto en modo secuencial saltando el cuarto? Trate de hacer todo el recorrido del engranaje secuencialmente de R a 5º hacia arriba y hacia abajo. Resultado del comentario.
¿Ha pasado mucho tiempo sin cambiar la valvulina?

Hello! Before changing this fantastic car or gearbox, I think it's worth doing some testing. Understand that I will try to help you with the best will ... have you tried to switch to the fifth in sequential mode by skipping the fourth? Try to make the entire gear travel sequentially from R to 5o up and down. Result of the comment.
Has it been a long time without changing the valve?

the only component involved in selecting third forth and fifth, which is not used for first and second which from what you say work ok, is the high clutch its sole purpose in life is to be involved in third, fourth & fifth gears only On 4th gear selection "especially since this is your issue", the high clutch, 2 to 4 brake, and the reduction brake is engaged during acceleration rangng from next to nothing right to almost the kickdown in 4th gear, the reduction one-way clutch is locked. Power flows from the input shaft to the front planetary gear set carrier to rotate clockwise by the high clutch. The 2 to 4 brake locks the front sun gear. The front pinion gear rotates clockwise and forces the front planetary carrier to rotate clockwise simultaneously. This allows the front internal gear to rotate clockwise and transmit power to the reduction internal gear via the output gear and idler gear.
A cracked reverse piston will cause a lack of 4th and 5th gears as it is partly responsible for the High clutch pressure/engagement, and is is quite common...

That's interesting. Mine had 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th, until the box warmed up, when it lost 4th, in fact it actually selected 1st instead of 4th, which pushed the engine to exceed the red line, as the vehicle slowed rapidly under engine braking.

I've now sold the vehicle on, as I needed to stop wasting time on it, so I can concentrate on my FL2 instead.

It's quite a frustrating the Jatco unit, but it can be fixed quite easily, only downside being repairing it usually proves to cost more than the car is worth!

FL2 on the whole is a far better car.
 
Looking at the many problems people on here are having with their F2's I may try n fix my F1's gearbox and keep it...With another lockdown coming along, will have plenty of time to do so...

The gearbox was the only issue I had other than maintenance.

The FL2 just needs more of everything, and a degree in computer science too, by the looks of it.:eek:

Solenoid B changes state when moving from gears 1, 2 ,3 to 4 and 5.

X = solenoid off
O = solenoid on
ABC = shift solenoids

The solenoid could be faulty or you may have a wiring fault. Your Freelander would normally complain about a wiring fault with F and 4 flashing on the dash display. Try the resistance test below to see if you have a wiring problem:
