Great job. Well done. Anything that involves delving into the insides of the Jatco is to be praised and admired !!

It would be great if you could find the time to do a photo write up of the procedure while it is fresh in your head!! I have referred back to several of my own write ups to remind me how I did something!!!

Many thanks for letting us know it works OK.

Andy, use the link in Technical Archive. In that folder there's the Jatco rebuild procedure. Reverse band doesn't need full strip down, just split the box & take out the diff & the clutch above the reverse band. Clean & re-assemble.

I have to split my V6 Jatco gearbox so that I can get the casing milled to fit my project.
Whilst the gearbox is apart should I be changing this reverse band as a precaution?
Any other parts that should be changed whilst I'm in there?
Is there a gasket between the halves of the gearbox?
thanks

I would definitely change the reverse band for the heavy duty type. Depending on mileage of the box have a look at the forward clutch pack (or just replace for peace of mind) then just inspect the rest of it for wear 'n' tear. The early ones had clutch 'basket/hub' problems (cracking) which should be changed for the modified ones, @andyfreelandy could tell you more. Apart from replacing the usual seals,d/shaft & output shaft etc + o-rings, I don’t think there are actual gaskets just silicone type gasket sealer on the halves.

My Jatco is taken from an earlyish (I think 2003) low mileage V6 that died due to head gasket failure. From memory the seller told me 30,000 miles. The bodyshell was the least rusty one that I've ever seen so I think it was the truth.

I'm struggling to split the bellhousing from the case. The instructions say to remove 22 bolts but I can only find 20. It seems very firmly stuck down as well. Am I supposed to do anything else other than remove those 20 and split it?

There are 21 bolts. 20 are obvious, the 21st is on the other side of the join:-
