Hi, anybody got any idea why a 2.5 dse automatic would display gearbox problem, and then apparently jump out of gear but this only happens when coasting say for instance if going downhill etc? If you pull over and re-engage drive its ok again for a while

Coasting = engine idling so alternator not doing a lot, if the battery is poor and the volts are low it's possibly the cause as that is a common cause of the gearbox fault message. Other possibilities are low oil level or a real gearbox fault.

Does your engine cut out?

No runs ok, but the battery has been low for a while but can that really cause it to jump out of gear? I'll charge the battery and see

Drive is manually selected, only the gear changes are electric. Low oil pressure on idle could be the problem. Check the level or better still do a change and new filter.
