Help needed please,
My Range Rover 1998, 2.5 DSE has developed an auto gearbox fault which I think may be a tempreture sensor.
Today after a 30 mile driver the alarm in the cabin came on and a message on the display reading the following. GEARBOX OVAHEAT, and another message underneath telling me to refer to owners manual.
I checked transmission fluid and its lovely and red not a burnt brown and was only changed 6000 miles ago inc filter.
I switched car of and left it for 5 hours, put keys in igniton to start and still have the alarm beep and the over heating message on disply. I switched off again and left for 2 hours and same fault.
I am assuming its a sensor fault as the gearbox is not overheating and surely after 5 hours if it had off it would have cooled down. can anybody advise if it could be a sensor as I can't clear the display of the fault and can't use the menu for speed limiter of trip compute as the error message is over riding the system.
If it is the sensor where on the box is it located, is it easy / difficult and cost?
Thanks all for your assistance in advance,.
