I've used a bak-rak on the tow ball for carrying stuff.
bags, tow-ball mounted luggage, boxes, luggage, clam-shell bag, carrier, holiday luggage, waterproof bag

They're rating it at 100kg, but I'm guessing that's to tie in with general towbar ratings. Their website used to detail dynamic testing they'd undertaken with 350kg loads. No doubt they've removed that bit of info to avoid someone damaging their towbar and getting arsy with them.

There are various options on the website for baskets, boxes, and lightboard mounts, but I felt they were all a bit pricey so I just went with the basic stainless rak and am diy'in the rest as and when I need to use it.

For additional securing I ran a couple of webbing straps from the back of the rack up to the roof rack, which wasn't necessary, but I was driving 1000 miles down to Slovenia with it, and belt n' braces seemed worthwhile.

I'd use the box insert - you'll make no friends with the kiddies driving down the motorway with a dead Bambi bunjee corded to the back of your landy. :hurt:

Thanks JNW, will give them a ring, I like the box insert too, seems more robust than the JMS product.

Have bought a couple of game sacks, stop the 'anti whatever' league :hippie:
from getting excited, when like what Oxide highlighted preventing dead bambi giving kids nightmares :behindsofa: and dripping claret all over the show.

Laters,

them aluminium boxes lok crazy

do they fit on any 4x4 ? and presume attach to the tow bit somehow ? any idea?

Heres how the Pro's do it.;) Although not long after they did get stuck and took about 2 hours to ge tthe Landy out....
