I'm looking at getting a new galv chassis for my 90 at the end of the summer, does anyone reccommend any people in particular? Nene Overland quoted me £1,500 to buy a chassis, move the engine mounts (I have a 300TDI with an lt77 gearbox) then galv it. I only want the chassis, planning on doing the work myself. I've looked at designa and richards and have heard good things about both but apparently one is better?
Thanks, Harry

Marsland

try richards chassis, i had a galv chassis of marsland for a defender, when i came to fit the doors, no chance, turns out the chassis was twisted 5/8inch out of square, marsland said this was not possible:eek: they agreed to send out a engineer who was by magic going to get my bodywork to fit,:D after about 2 hours he admited it was twisted,

they told me they would replace it once i had stripped it all back down to the bare chassis again, they said they would replace it with a td5 chassis with 200tdi mounts on, when i asked them if all the bolt on bits would fit they told me no problem,

new chassis arrived, checked it was square, no problem this time, rebuilt everything no probs, came to fit, towbar, steps ect, nothing fitted, £400 for towbar, steps ect it was finished, i wrote a letter to them explaining everything that had gone wrong, they had not got the decency to even reply, least of all offer some compensation for all the extra work i had to go to:mad: just look how much money it would have cost me extra if a garage had to do the work:mad:

Only heard good things about Richards - that's who will be supplying mine. (Stands back and waits to be corrected!)

im gonna go with marsland as their delivery time is 2-3 weeks wheras richards is 6-8! Time will tell!! :D

Dont be put off by one bad review..i used them and they were really good, phoned me when it left their premises etc as it was being exported...thought the price was ok too.

as boris said, dont be put off by my review, i previously bought a series chassis off them and it was fine, i probably had a friday afternoon special, all im saying is there aftermarket service is awful if theres a problem, just make sure you measure your chassis from corner to corner to check its square, before fitting it, and avoid all the problems i had
