95 4.6 HSE, HI range gears only, not a huge problem but would like Low range to work if quite simple to fix.
Message "Select Neutral" often shows but go away at its own magic powers.
Gear box works the same in Hi or Low pos. so suspect the ecu or the motor.
Always in sport mode when started but goes into "normal" when pressing mode button, bizarre thing is the S symbol on dash shows when in normal.(Button pressed)
When inserting the fuse (11 i think) for transfer neutral it goes into neutral so i suspect the ecu or?
Does anyone know a simple test? Or have i found it to be the ecu?

(Believe its stuck in HI as the revs about 2200 o/min @ 60mph)

Happy New Year from the Highland:5bparty:

NB: Oil/Filter ok - box smooth as young ar..

Well, if it goes into neutral with fuse 11 it can't be the motor. Bad connections/earths or ECU.

No serviceable parts inside ecu - well i ordered a new transistor to replace the exploded one, another one has bad soldering and on the way out
- Next year delivery only... Knock wood this sort it:)
Note: in the photo of the open box a big combi transistor clip is removed.

It worked!
Changed 3 transistors (mosfet) and now for the first short time i've had the Range, low gearbox and all buttons/lights/messages works.
First time into low there was slight hesitation and rather large clonk but now the change is smooth and fast, wonder how many years since it was last working?
Driving has changed, it's like the car has been remapped or reset like when my X5's driver adaptive mode is reset(kick down switch activated, ign. on 1/2 min., release switch, then start) after adapting wife's driving style.
Much more responsive different beast to drive, dono why as i was only dealing with the transfer ecu.
Always thought it was a bit dead for a V8 and only way to get off the lights following traffic was in sport mode, but now it's transformed. Makes thunder with Grace.
So happy with it, may it run for a while/wood knocking n' all.:)
NB: Transistors cost around £1 each in small quantities.

Whilst waiting for spares and out driving on two occasions i had no gears at all for a couple of minutes, message "Gearbox Fault" displayed, cured itself, believe its related to the faulty transfer box ecu, Scary when in traffic.

.

How about letting the masses know the transistors part/stock number and suppliers details, just incase someone has the same problem and requires them???

Thought to wait until they were proven for some time as i couldn't get exact same only close to and don't want to bring trouble, done 40 miles pt.
Supplied by RS components part no: 5410086 N-channel MOSFET,IRLZ44N 47A 55V, 94p + vat, sure others has them.

Hi, mate is it still working? I'm just about to do the same repair :)

Yes still working perfectly.
Will only recommend this if you are very handy with soldering, cheap used ecu's often on ebad but they're used so that's why I chose to repair mine, also sort of an experiment to see if it only was the transistors causing all my gear trouble and it was.
So if no soldering experience I would recommend to find another ecu, but as said if capable go on, very satisfying to repair stuff.
