Hi all,

Recently I have had my 19J's fuel pump recondition along with new injectors, gaskets and lift pump and for the weeks after everything seemed okay. But recently, on two occasions driving it, the engine would suddenly loose power for a couple of seconds before picking back up again. First of I thought of dodgy fuel so made sure the tank was clean and replaced the fuel what I know is clean fuel from a different garage that I always use.

However, now it has gotten worse as now it would completely cut out, then wont start again afterwards. So far we have replaced the solenoid which seems to of got the engine running again. But this has now brought a new issue. When the engine is started and left on idle. The engine will shut off normally by turning the key. If you start the engine and apply any throttle movement, then try and turning the engine off, it will keep running. Resulting in having to stall the engine to shut it off.

Currently, the Land Rover drives fine with no smoke, knocks or bangs or loss of power.

Below should be a short video of what is happening.

Any suggestions would be apricated as we are at a loose end.

Adam.

When it won't turn off with the key pull the wire off the solenoid- what happens? If it keeps running- faulty solenoid. If it stops you are getting a live feed to the solenoid when you shouldn't be, ign switch needs looking at first if that's the case, cheap to buy, held on to the ign barrel with 2 screws.

not all the time, I've had similar issues (200tdi D1) and it was metal fragments stopping the solenoid's plunger from cutting-off fuel flow:(

turned out the ip was worn internally and the fragments were bits that were escaping:rolleyes:

Agreed, but his pump has been reconned.

Thank you both for getting back to me.
So when we pull the wire off from the switch to stop the feed, the engine will cut out.

But did you pull the wire off whilst it was playing up- the key turned off and engine still running?
If you did then it's a cheap fix.

Might have mis read your post?
You haven't tried anything yet then?
When it's playing up, pull the wire, it should stop. If it does, cheap fix, if it doesn't, faulty solenoid or bits of metal inside the pump- not good.
